My CX-5 is in...so what to expect at dealership?

Hi all...I put a deposit down on a white AWD CX5 GT fully loaded and will be picking it up this week. I haven't bought a car in about 8 years so I am a little rusty when it comes to what to expect from the dealership in terms of paperwork and additional "services" they will try to get me to sign up for. I am not interested in any of the extras/extended warranties and would like to be in and out in less than an hour. I have never purchased a Mazda. I am trading in a car and we have settled on the trade in price but not the final price of the CX5.

What are the "extras" they will try to sell me on? Things to watch out for? Any insight from recent buyers would be great!

Rust coating, pin striping, service/maintenance agreement, scotch guard and warranty extensions. Those are the ones I am familiar with. Some people have been able to get around the "doc fees" but I have not.

If you truly dont want anything extra let them know you just want to move it along. I actually got the 7 year extended warranty since I drive a lot of miles.

Just say no. Once they conclude you are resistant to BS, it will move a lot faster.

conversely, you can reply "sure I'd love for you to give me that for free...." It will move along quickly after that as well.

See if they have any of those "Mazda Advantage" Service deals.... they gave me one for free.... (two years of oil changes and minor maintenance )

They told me that I am eligible for free oil changes for as long as I own the car. Not sure if this is specific to just our dealership locally or not. That was definitely a plus. I go in to sign the papers and pick it up this afternoon so I will certainly post how my experience went and the final out the door price I get. Wish me luck!

rip2955 - How did it go?

Sorry for not replying back faster...been tied up at work. The experience was about what I expected. Other than the extended service agreement, they didn't really try to sell me on anything else (I made it clear upfront that I needed to move this process quickly as I needed to get back to work). Unfortunately, even after playing hardball with the sales guy and his manager, they would only come down $200 bucks off the sticker price. However, I think I got a pretty fair value on my trade in so all in all I was relatively pleased. I could have been a real ass and threatened to walk out for a few 100 more but they have people lined up to buy these cars so I didn't want to risk losing it.

I am very happy so far with the GT CX5 AWD. I am about 90% highway/10% city and in my second tank I am getting damn near 33mpg. That is with extremely careful braking, coasting, cruise control, and going speed limit. I was going to post my mpgs to the forum after I finished out this second tank.
