my christmas present, a broken motor mount!!!!

Take it easy, Guys. Everyone's entitled to an opinion.

///MCompact, you have an '07, the first year of production.
While everyone agrees that Mazda should have improved the motor mount(s) before releasing the car for production you must also admit that there were more problems with the 07's than the later models... short of the sticking/cross-threading gas cap problem... a minor problem but another major annoyance for the owners.
I've probably had more annoyances w/my '04 than owners of later model N/A's too. Most were handled under the warranty. That's just the way it is when you buy a first model year of production.

off-topic: bgibb68, Are you in north Austin a lot of the time? I see several yellow P5's around that area. One that comes to my H-E-B pretty regularly. Could that be you?

i'm sorry but i would almost guarentee that day to day in traffic drive will kill a car quicker than taking to the track once a month or so....a motor needs to be ran....which is why 'run it like you stole it' sticks in my mind and i stick to it.....if the car can't hold up to that....than it's a kia

As long as you're willing to deal with the possible consequences... run it like you stole it! I run mine hard too.... and just replaced the rear and passenger mounts and go through brakes/tires quicker than normal. I also change the oil every 3k. I can almost guarantee they'd hold up longer If I drive normally but I have waayyy too much fun. And on top that, if I tracked the car I'd be looking for upgraded springs/shocks/struts, upgraded brakes and possibly a baffled oil pan. For street use the stock setup is great, for track use it's barely good enough according to what I read.

The point is, I'm willing to put up with the consequences without calling the car a POS (or a KIA). I hope the turbo makes it to at least 100k but considering how hard it works in my car, I'm willing to accept the possibility it might die earlier.

here here....i like your thinkin bete....and i was't calling our mazdas kia....i was just saying....i actually have had zero issues with my p5.....

Just for the record, my MS3 has spent a total of FOUR hours on the track; it served as my instructor car over three days at ONE HPDE. Are you saying that after such extreme mechanical torture I should expect the struts and turbo to fail? My prior track toy somehow survived 13 years and 113,000 miles of hard driving. The suspension is all original and the engine has only needed the thermostat replaced. I didn't realize that I had to gingerly drive the MS3 as if it were an everyday grocery-getter in order to keep it from coughing up broken parts.
Thanks for clearing things up.

imho i dont think that the shocks should really be any reason to get all upset and want to get rid of the car. i do understand the turbo issue though. Mine was replaced at 36000 miles and i am worried about it going out again after the warranty is out, but its still not enough for me to get all bent out of shape and sell the car or call it pos, kia, etc...

Seriously, the constant karping is getting old. I can understand the disappointment but like many others have already mentioned, things DO break from time to time. Whether it happens to you or your car is the luck of the draw. It would be unreasonable to believe that every single car I own will be completely trouble free but so far, my last two cars have treated me very well, including the MS3 but it's only been a year so far so we'll see.

i agree with you derspi i really do. i am so sick of these stupid threads/posts about how the ms3 is a pos or unreliable or i am selling because i modded it and it broke.

I've never called the MS3 a POS on this forum. I AM disappointed that my brand new car has required two significant repairs under warranty-before it reached 26000 miles. And like you, I'm concerned about whether the new turbo will fail- and when. Will I sell it? I haven't decided yet.

ultimately it is your car and your choice to make, not mine or anybody else's.

I'm warning you guys, don't make me start handing out the official infractions. Being insulting, flaming or insighting drama is against the rules here.
Keep the flames to a minimum, or take it to PM's.

as many of you are saying.. the '07 really does have a lot of problems.. as soon as i get my car back ill call mazda corporate. if mazda doesn't give me a good compensation, i'll be trading it in for an '09 cuz i love this car. i'm just hoping that the '09 doesn't have any serious issues like falling engines and such

for those that have experienced engine mount failures and have contacted Mazda USA Corp., is there any confirmation from the headquarter that they are actually working on a solution to this mount failure issue? Especially since the previous recall doesn't solve anything.

maybe the mounts wear because teh crappy rear mount, upgrading the rear trans mount makes everything more solid, compared to stock which could rock the side mount excessively making it eventually fail

Hey, lets put EVERYTHING in perspective. Lets go pay $70,000+ for an 08 Nissan GT-R, activate the launch control, and than go back to the dealership after the transmission fails. The computer saves the record of you activating the launch control, it automatically voids your warrently and the owner now must pay $10,000 for parts and labor to install a new transmission.

All cars have issues, if you want to see some really bad quality issues, go over to the VW forums and see just how many issues come up.

Anyway, on a side note, which engine mount is failing and was recalled? If I remember correctly, it was the side engine mount? I have a SU rear engine mount, but I don't think it's the one failing. If it's the side one, than I'll just pay the 100 bucks for a new one and replace it.

well s*** happens. Even the best can fail. If a company never had any failures they would be the best company in the world and everybody would only buy them.

I'm a quality control tech for an LCD TV company(which love to cut corners) and i've seen many failures of a certain model after a few months to a year, were i have the exact some model sitting in my room going on 2 years with no issues at all (knock on wood).

stock struts fail because we drive hard, i went through a few cars and all my struts were worn due to hard driving.

I agree that mazda did design bad mounts, but if you think about it they had too. Stronger mounts would have vibrated the whole car and for people that wanted this for a dd, that was probably a no go, yet they still wanted to keep this torquey engine.

when i first got my car, first thing i noticed was the shifting feel and the way the motor swayed back and fourth, it look like trouble waiting to happen, motor mounts had to go ... waiting for tranny mount soon, i better cross my fingers.

well i called the dealer today to find out the status of my car.. surely enough, it wasn't even touched. the ****** service guy told me they were still waiting for mazda to approve the repair... anybody know why they need approval for this particular warranty repair?
