My Babys Gone!!!

:
2002 Mazda Protege5
Got into an accident today. Yeah, my poor lil white P5 is off in some wreck yard, waiting for my insurance agent to look at it. I'll take pictures tomorrow. The whole front end is bashed in, I need a new hood, a new top and bottom grille, drivers side head light, drivers side fog light, a new radiator, passengers side quarter panel, and I don't even know what else is damaged. Could get the hood open. But when it goes in the body shop I'm going to have them shave the sidemarkers, paint my top grill piece body color, since I have to get a new hood I might get one from Protege Garage. I like the one with the functional hood scoop, I think that looks sick. Kinda WRXish. Would it be cheaper to buy a new hood and have them put it on? Would insurance put forward the amount for a regular hood? Oh well. Any advice would be appreciated.

All depends on the insurance company paying the stuff (yours or the other guy's).

They may choose to repair it to OEM only. They may choose to total it. Or they may choose to have the body shop send you the check. If it's the 3rd, you just gotta convince the body shop to order the other hood.

Well the insurance company said somebody would contact me with my claim in two business days, so either Monday or Tuesday. But I guess mine is because it was my fault?

what company?

I would wait to see if the insurance totals it. With the described damage, I have a feeling you maybe looking to get a new car. Post up some pics, and we can guesstimate if it is a total loss or not. Hopefully it is paid off or you are not upside down on it.

Of course, you can buy it back from insurance, tow it home, and slowly part it out on the forum for everyone to vulture parts off of it.

I sure hope its not totalled, I will post pics up today or tomorrow cause I have to work tonight. I dont think there is a whole lot of mechanical damge, I hope its mostly cosmetic. Its all stock anyways, so if i did buy it back and tow it home, I'd repair it myself. Or buy a new one with an MTX.(evil)

don't repair it yourself because there's always little stuff that pops up eventually and you'll want to fall back on the mechanic shop for that stuff rather than you not doing a good job

i am sorry man. i would've cried if that happened to me. i hope you don't get screwed by the insurance company.

if its totalled, which we hope not, but if it is, look at the special mitsu has with 0 apr. EVO time :)

Well here are some pics. Thanks for all the help through these hard times. Its tough opening that garage door and not seeing her there.

sorry man, it looks like it will be totaled. Way too much damage to the front end. The frame looks like it got bent for sure.

Just curious, what happened? What did you hit?

juding by the pics, i'd say it's a goner for sure
and i should know, having had a far less damaging accident (got ran into by a f250) (on a different kind of car) and it was totaled as well

i sure hope your insurance covers the cost you owe vs what they pay - a.k.a. "gap"

lot of new car dealers try to sell gap insurance to cover that, typicaly adding $25/mo to the cost of the car

Well...thats not exactly what I wanted to hear, haha, but s*** happens i guess. We just have to see what the insurance company says about it. I was at a T intersection, with me being at a stop sign on the vertical part. I was trying to turn left. One car turns right onto my street, I swear the car behind him had her indicator on, so, being in a hurry and not thinking, pulled out and...crash. Right in the middle of the intersection. I hit her front quarter panel and bashed it up pretty good. I think I ****** up her front wheel drive assembly as well. Life goes on. Guess I better start looking for a manual P5. I loved my car so much, and had it for so little of a time, if it is totalled I don't know if I could drive anything else!
