2016 CX5 touring
I know everybody has a oil change story, and I have read a lot about the subject on this forum. I would like to share what happened to me....
Brought my 16 touring in 2300 miles, owned it since since june 1
service advisor asks for keys to car the info for the service,,, 3 guys in service area come over and we start talking,,,, how do you like it.... how many miles.... nice color.....
service advisor comes in and says "you don't need a oil change, and i say i had it almost 91/2 months....one of the 3 guys says,do you know you have the best oil in the best engineered motor anywhere,,,, thinking the mazdaspeed polos they were wearing the reason for their enthusiastic reply I said but what about the time???....another mazdaspeed guy says don't worry about it come back in june.....I say what about warranty issues if there is ever a problem... he smiles pats the hood and says "with this baby it'll never happen,,, and i said but what if.....dont worry we will take care of it....with a smile
i am like hmmmmm.... who are these guys,,,,,just then the third guy comes out and says norman the service advisor said you bought you cx5 at another dealer but you had a bad experience with them...... We spent a few minutes discussing my problem and I said I was so frustrated I email jeremy barnes president of mazda customer experience and the next morning he called me and sent me here.... i was totaly shocked to get a response,,, he said I know jeremy very well, how was your experience at this dealership i told him i am a believer in mazda again.... he says come with me.... we head over to the waiting room / retail area he gets a really nice zoom zoom license plate frame and when we get to the counter he just shows the counterguy his ID and signs for it.... he says here this is for you jeremy and I and all of mazda want you to be happy....I ask who were those mazdaspeed guys,,, he says they are factory race engineers, the 3 of us are in florida for testing for the 12hrs or sebring race.... and believe them when they tell you about the oil......so thats my story... just another variation in all the things we read and heard about oil change intervals...
plus to hear back from someone at that level who spoke to me about my issues with the dealer i bought from, to him having someone from another dealer call me to see how they can help was just unbelievable to me... I guess I am back to lovin my CX5

Great story! Thank you for taking the time to share with the rest of us.
Have heard great things about that oil too from different reliable sources...

classic Disney fairy tale, OP's kid eventually goes to work at Mazda and becomes a hero ... :-)

I'm jealous, but at the same time wishing that we have a Mazda engineer unofficially participating the forums answering technical questions. I remember the famous Andrew Jones (designer of the $80K Reference One speakers) participated in various forums to exchange technical details on building speakers. When his affordable SP-BS41 speakers came out, he also answered questions by forum members about the design details, not as a PR person but just as a tech/peer, and those frank discussions allowed others to verify/validate his design, thus making the speakers one of the hottest items.

my 1st oil change experience, probably not like yours

Yeah, my 1st oil change was nothing special, other than checking out the new engine underneath. OP's 1st oil change experience definitely ranked one of the best and I'm jealous too! Not only he didn't get ripped off by the dealer doing an unnecessary oil change at 2,300 miles, but also he got a free Mazda's Zoom-Zoom license plate frame! I think I should email that Jeremy Barnes guy at Mazda for a free Mazda key chain... ;)

Those Mazda engineers were correct and they wanted the OP back for his oil change in a year. You normally don't need oil change for only 2,300 miles if you use Mazda recommended oil. I hope all 2016 and newer CX-5 owners switch to Flexible Maintenance on oil change through Maintenance App. Your OCI can be up to 10,000 miles or 1 year! The on-board computer will do the calculation and display the "Oil change due" message. This is the best way for people with low driving miles like OP. By doing this you won't void your new car and powertrain warranty, save your money for not doing unnecessary oil change, and save the environment by reducing used oil.

Factory race engineers. I love it!

Both of their entries finished the grueling 12 hour race without any mechanical difficulties with their gasoline powered (E10) 2.0L turbo-charged in-line 4's (6th and 8th places). The top Mazda team completed 238 laps, 29 seconds behind the race winner. Here's what I found interesting. Their best lap time was a full second behind the race winner but their average lap time was only 0.12 seconds off the winning pace. The Mazda team put in one hell of an effort!

Something similar happened to me. Here in Panama all brands request you to take your car for service every 3 months no matter the mileage. I know. Stupid...so I took my CX-5 for service at 3,000 kms for the first oil change and they told me I could wait until 5,000 kms (3,000 miles) so I waited another month and took it in. They were pretty relaxed and easy about it, nothing like my 2014 Toyota that needed oil changes every 3 months, one of those with barely 500 miles from the last service as I didn't drive much. So far I like the Mazda approach to services.

Finally first oil change,,, I have owned the vehicle 50 weeks and have 3112 miles on my 2016 CX5. Vehicle now has Castrol ED 0w20 synthetic oil. The Fuel filler pipe repair was also done along with the Mazda "full circle inspection" and tire rotation. Also included was a car wash ,coffee and bluberry muffin all at no cost to me.
