Mufflers vs. Catback exhaust

mufflers are mainly for looks or tone, free up the air flow a little. the onew in the link just attach to the end of your stock system, not much for performance and usually have a ricey sound..

catback replaces the whole system behind the exhaust manifold. usually bigger diameter and less restrictions for more air flow and power increase.

just want the look, get a muffler..

want looks plus performance, get catback.

I'm presuming that the "just mufflers" you're looking at are a straight-through design instead of what is known as "chambered". The stock MS6 mufflers are a chambered design and many aftermarket performance mufflers will be straight-through. There will likely be some marginal performance gain for swapping out the mufflers for a straight-through. However, your real restrictions lie in the factory downpipe and the two catalytic converters (on the MS6).

A true cat-back exhaust will be the pipes, mufflers, and tailpipes to make a complete system from the last catalytic converter to the back of the car.

I think a lot of people install what you're linking to for the sound. I also think a lot of people call those 'fart cans' because they tend to sound like s***.

yeah thats what i thought.. im just gunna save my money and do the job right and get the full catback in that case

Do it right with a CBE and test pipe to actually get some gains along with the sounds.

Also, in the future, posting more relevant thread titles will get you more answers. I took the liberty of fixing this one for ya.

I think that's the right call. You'll be much happier with it in the long-run even if it takes you a little longer to get it.

By the way, props to you for not just being impulsive and buying a fart can. We're always here for help, so if you don't know what you're looking for or are unsure just come back and ask. You'll get lots of opinions and perspectives that you maybe didn't think about beforehand.

Glad we could help you out!

Doing some exhaust research of my own, you can pick up the Magnaflow CBE and a SU test pipe for around $525 or so total. That comes in a lot cheaper than Corksports 3" exhaust ($700) or the cp-e dual ($1100!). It's only a 2.5" system, but without your 2nd cat and the extra .5" at the exit, you should see some gains and a nice throaty sound.

i think you can get a maganflow cbe for under 450$?

Yes, there's been a lot of talk about a site offering the Magnaflow for $415-425 shipped. I don't know exactly where it is offhand.

And yes, that's my job. I'm just trying to help out.

CVR motorsports is where I got my mangaflow, great guys over there. Coupled with a 2.5" TP, it makes a great tone with the exhaust. Its a little quiet for me without the TP on there
