Muffler delete, anyone done it?

Hey all. I was going to have a custom axle back made, but before I do that I figure I could remove the stock axle back to see if I am happy with the sound/tone. My first question is have you done it and how was the sound? An also removing the axle back leaves the last part of the exhaust turned up into the car were the flanges would meet. Is this safe to drive around for a couple days like this?

Thanks and btw i just installed a su smic upgrade off the for sale section and let me tell you if your still on the stock ic your really missing out. I cant believe I drove my speed around without an upgrade for 7 years. i have a high flow midpipe, 8psi and the car feels like its in beast mode now. Prob still has less than 200 hp but it feels fast enough for me. Got a megasquirt 2 unit set up for fuel going on in a couple months. i need to work on my soldering skills before i wire it up.

Buy a harness extension to keep from tearing up ur engine harness... and as for the exhaust I cracked my exhaust a few months ago and been riding wit an open cat sounds pretty nice almost like an srt4 wit a lil bit of backfire but def looking into gettin a 3in turbo back

I need to upgrade my smic also. The upgrade ones are a bit pricey. I might just do a fmic and have a local shop make me aluminum pipping to fit perfectly.

Where can I pick up those extensions? Good idea if im ever stranded and its an ems issue. So your running open after cats then? I might try that too for s****

If i wasn't in cali i would go fmic. Most guys still do but I don't want to risk a ticket. You can score different cores fairly cheap these days if you shop around. And anything should be an improvement over the stock one

Look into aem harness extension .. or even *************.com should have an extension harness .. and yea I been riding open cats .. my exhaust crack in 2 right bfore the 2nd o2 sensor ... I still have my muffler n ish on juss so dat I dnt get stopped but its a nice lil rumble

I remember when I first put on my high flow midpipe i forgot to put in the o2 sensor. just that little hole in the exhaust produced a sweet little gurgle. I blipped the throttle and it sounded like an srt. Sweet but too loud for my taste then. Maybe I'll pull that muffler off today and report back. ive been on the forums here since 03 and there used to be a sweet exhaust clip thread, still is actually but I think most of the clips don't work anymore. There are some good ones Id like to have for reference that youtube doesn't have.

Btw, I pulled the axle back off and it didn't sound bad at all. Was a little more gurgly and not super loud. I had to bolt it back up. I didn't realize the resonator section was that long so there was too much weight to hold up with out the hangers from the axle back.

i have a straight pipe from the cats back and i love the sound!!! is pretty quiet at idle and has a good deep tone higher up. and never have problems with cops. and on the highway it is pretty good too. i drive 13 hours from my school in ohio to Massachusetts once a month.. lol

I replaced mine with a custom one, and save 20lbs(weighed it). I liked it while it was on but missed my exhaust tip. Not really worth it in terms of power performance, but i did notice a little difference in handling. As for megasquirt send me pics of your setup i was thinking about this before i decided to sell my protege.
