There is hope! Today I bought a cosmic blue Speed3 Sport with chrome fuel filler door and compass/autodim mirror for $21,619, or $1,491 below MSRP!!! Being Mr. car savvy, I had negotiated a deal of $110 under MSRP with the sales manager by phone and came in for a drive and purchase. My wife looked in the back seat and said "Oh, it's on sale?" Sure enough, she spotted a Thanksgiving Day sales tag (over for 2 days) that had been left in the back seat. The sales manager was kicking himself for not removing the tag but honored the price without hesitation. The sales rep said the car had been there for a month and things were very slow in general - thus the discount. BTW, I am in Olympia, WA. and it was the last one on the lot, sorry.

I know it was dumb luck, but do I win the prize? It is the lowest I have heard of.

yup.. paid almost $28k for mine. Good job man. You will LOVE that car.

I had a local car salesman call to harrass me about 2 new ms3's the just got in stock. Aparently they aren't selling as they hoped since he spent 20 minutes on my phone @ 5:30 on saturday trying to sell me one. IMO anyone that can wait a few months will see the markups fall drastically.

Wow man congrats on the awesome price and welcome to the forums!!!

whats funny is its completely regional. for example, every single allotment that Mazda has sent my dealership, has been spoken for already for cars that are may/june due dates. Then I hear other places where they cant get anyone to even look @ the cars... its weird.

this isnt in regard to the MS3 but just the 3 most of the 3s on the lot near my house are sold within days of them getting them in...its crazy how they move here in mongomery/bucks county PA

We have the same issue over here. I called most the dealerships looking for one of the speeds and they said that most of them are already spoken for. There was one in a dealership that was not spoken for and had been sitting on the floor for about 2 weeks with a 2000 bucks added to the msrp. That is the one I got for msrp. Seems like depending on where you live depends on the deal you can get.

sounds like a great deal. according to Edmunds.com, you paid Invoice, which is supposedly what the dealer pays (although I can't understand why they'd go through all the trouble for zero profit so they must make money somewhere).

The MS3 will be my next car but probably later this year. I don't really want to buy a new hi-perf car in winter and then have to put snow tires on it right away. Hopefully the prices will come down a bit as well.

I'd like to hear if anyone else is getting MS3s below MSRP and how much

I'm not sure if invoice is what the dealer really actually pays for the car. For example, my friend is the sales manager for a Honda dealer. When Honda stopped making the Prelude at the end of 2001, they had a few left over on the lot. The msrp was 25k, but he showed me the price sheet for what the dealer actually paid for the car. It was a little over 19k, I was surprised about how much markup there was in it.

I'm not sure if the MS3 would have similar markup or not in the price. I really should have bought a Prelude then, that would have been a hell of a deal.

Congrats. You paid the amount the car should sell for. Paying MSRP is just paying too much. Eventually, people will get equal/ better deals then you got, but right now, you can't beat it for a new car with a high demand. I doubt the Speed 3 will ever get to the Speed 6 levels, since the Speed 6 is basically a market failure, and the Speed 3 will not be. I paid $3000 below invoice for mine, and there's no way in hell you can get a Speed 3 for invoice where I live right now. However, $500 off msrp is easily obtained for the Speed 3 in my area.

No, invoice is not what the dealer pays. That's a gimic. They made money off thar car rest assured. They didn't make a killing like they would have if you bought it for MSRP, but it's a profit nonetheless, and another car off their lot. Everyone wins. Enjoy. :)

a car that has a MSRP of $20k will usually cost the dealer ABOUT $14K

Car dealerships thrive on new hot cars like this, knowing people just need to have something right away, and cannot wait. In a better world, everyone would express interest, yet express a little patience, therefore the cars would become invoice or below instantly. However, that's not how it works, and people just don't care if they pay full retail for a car, which IMO, no car is worth. The same story will hold true for this car as it holds for every new hot car that comes out. The initial hype will wear down, and people will be saying invoice is an OK deal, and that you should be able to go lower then that.

It reminds me of back in late 2003 when I was looking for an STI. Dealership wouldn't go lower then 500 off msrp, acting like it was some kind of super deal. I held off, three months later came back to dealership, and got one for $800 below invoice. That's three months of patience, and over $3000 in savings. :)
