MSP3 $1,491 below MSRP!!!

My local dealer was willing to sell an MS3, true red sport for only $1000 over invoice.
That's not too surprising since MSRP on an MS3 Sport is only around $1400 over invoice and apparently red is the slowest selling color. Still, it's good to see more examples of dealers slowly starting to discount MS3s. I think trying to sell a hi-performance car with summer-only tires, at least in the Northern states, is a tough sell, not to mention that it's a weak time for car dealers overall.

I am still surprised to hear that dealers buy $20K cars for $14K. I mean now much can the manufacturer make selling cars to dealers for $14K???

I do not believe that to be accurate at all. That number has some accuracy on lets say a $40k msrp car they buy for $32k, because the higher price of the vehicle, the lower the invoice becomes, and the better the deals are $$ wise on many higher MSRP vehicles. They do get the car for well below invoice, and the invoice price is a standard created number which allows dealerships to sell the car and still make a sizable profit.

The reason they are able to sell cars for below invoice many times and minimize their profit is because A: the dealership sells a ton of vehicles per month, B: the cash rebates and incentives they are reimbursed for, and C: believe it or not there are still people that walk into dealerships just looking at the window sticker, and without saying a word, test drive it, like the car, and say I'll take it, and pay full sticker, not knowing they could have gotten a much better deal. The dealerships can look back on their profits of weeks past, and have the ability to sell a car to a haggler who they know will walk if the price cannot be met. My Dad used to be one of those people, until I walked into the dealership with him and did the haggling for him, and suddenly he realized he's been overpaying for cars all these years. :)
