MSP Turbo replacement options

mazda protege mp3 #673
Before I ask my questions I need to give a little background on my car. I bought a 2001 mp3 about 5 years ago that had a "complete" msp swap and being younger and ignorant to almost everything about turbos and timing ended up blowing a finger sized hole in a piston because come to find out it didn't have a msp ecu it had the mp3. Well it being 2013 I now have the time to fix it up I have a good used block that has been bored and honed .020 over, wiseco 9-1 pistons, k1 rods, arp head studs and a very thick cometic head gasket that is not being used. I WAS going to going for 400whp but I found that the protege transmission cant handle that as a daily driver. Now being older and not wanting to have another car that needs daily service or maintenance I want to put this bake together just to be a fun almost stock dd because the last car I had a 95 awd eagle talon was very fast and always needed something.

Now to my questions, I'm trying to find an affordable turbo to replace the stock gt25rs with that's not going to make to much boost for the ecu because im not going to be doing any standalone or piggyback.

I found this turbo http://www.enjukuracing.com/products/*ISIS-RS3871-Turbo-%2d-Nissan-SR20DET.html

Has anyone used them or know anyone that has?

I know someone on here is going to say just get a replacement chra but that over 700 just for the turbo and its only a big t25.

Oh one last question has anyone ever used a manifold adapter and a mitsibishi turbo because a evo3 16g would be an awesome turbo.

well to make things real easy. anyone would HIGHLY RECOMMEND at minimum using a SSAFC for the msp ecu. it runs really rich and the poor tuning on it has also led to many engine failures at stock boost levels. you can use a sr20 t25 turbo. has to be modified a bit to fit right. but it is possible to use. there are a few used t25 msp turbos in the for sale section. both manifold and turbo. also would recommend at minimum a welded diff if its going to be a stockish DD. the stock diff is crap and fails if driven too hard on. which if you have a built block chances are youre going to do SOME hard driving on it.

btw i see its your first post. and idk if youre new here but WELCOME to the forum. use the search button and do some research in the msp/protege section. youll find loads of information from old threads.

thanks for the info.

I'm a little confused I have been doing some research and its probably me just being confused about what I've read but I thought the msp ecu learns around a ssafc also at wot it has a set map that it uses that cant be changed by a ssafc.

I am new to this forum but hope to be a contributor of knowledge here some day.

Oh and as for a lsd I am open diff as its an mp3 so that will also be done when money allows.

the ssafc is probably the best piggyback you can get for the msp ecu. some guys have tuned it the ssafc on an mp3 ecu. other AFC controllers the msp ecu does learn around. and the open/closed loop issue i assume is what you are talking about. theres a thread about that issue and tuning it as best as possible to make the switch as unnoticable as possible i believe. there is also the option of a unichip which some guys have used even myself. and it does help, but you either have to purchase the tuning software to tune it yourself or go to a unichip dealer to retune it for your mods everytime.

when it comes to a vote, everyone usually votes ssafc to tune on as a daily. some guys have used full standalones like microtech 10s, haltechs, and MPI tuners. if you go ssafc, there is a thread with different map set ups you can download, most popular being the "stock-super map" mainly for a full bolt-ons car with stock injectors.

Expellant I was looking at that ssafc and reading on here about it so i am on the right track for tuning.
