MSP Tranny Blues

So here I am the proud new owner of a MazdaSpeed Protege (no more than 7 days old) and what am I doing on a Saturday night? Cruising in my new Black Mica Turbo Charged Chariot? No....I'm perusing the Protege forums trying to get my fix. You see, less than a week after I bought my car it's back at the dealership getting FIXED!!!!!

My transmission absolutely died on me. I couldn't get it out of 3rd gear. So instead of hugging corners, I'm hugging a pint of Hagen Daaz and searching for solace. Has anyone else had transmission problems with their new MPS??????

If this is what happens to the car at 700 miles what about 70,000? Damn, I guess I should purchase that extended warranty. I guess that's what I get for purchasing a Ford product.

Please help an enthusiast sleep at night and share your experiences with a downtrodden brother in cars. As they say, "Misery loves company".

No major problems for me and i have 10,123 miles on my car.

my reverse is getting harder and harder to get into as my mileage goes up... and emergency brake need to be high up too.. but that's all the problems i have so far

I notice with every manual tansmission car I've driven, to get into revers sometimes requires that you press the clutch, put it in 1st, and then go back to reverse.

yeah me too sometimes you have to roll a litlle foward and then put it in reverse

Yeah reverse is a little hard for me to get into. But I drove my dad's old Chevy truck for so long and to get that into reverse you had to try to put it in gear, put it back in neutral, release the clutch, press the clutch and then it goes right in. That's what I do for my car and it goes in pretty easy every time. I used to have the grind from 1st to 2nd but since I changed to redline MT-90 I haven't had that problem. I've never had problems going into any of the other forward gears. Even downshifting I never had problems. Are you guys pushing the clutch in the whole way when you downshift?

When I first got my car I grinded 2nd a couple of times cause I would try to shift and just mildly push in the clutch but would release before I had it in gear, oops.. But i've trained myself out of that problem. Another thing someone else said somewhere that I think would have some relevance is are you slamming it into gear? I shift just enough till it pops in, I don't yank the shifter back until it stops, I think that puts some really bad stress on a lot of parts. Well there my input. Sorry to hear about your tranny though.

I bought the extended warranty with my car too but have been modding it. Hopefully it doesn't hurt my warranty. Atleast I'll still have it if the AC or any electrical part goes.
