MSP owners - what is your "real world" fuel consumption?

I'm interested in hearing from you guys and gals you have your MSP and (hopefully) have been keeping track of your fuel consumption. Especially those of you past the break-in period and are now driving with some gusto. If anyone has been keeping track of your mileage, post it here please!

I haven't been keeping track ... I've never kept track in any car .... I need gas, this is my car, so it never enters my mind to check. My impression, though, is it is a thirsty car. About $35 to fill from near empty, and it seems to empty a LOT quicker than my old Del Sol ... although it was cheap on gas. It would fill for about $30 and go a lot farther. I'm still getting used to it .... I got on the DVP off the Gardiner last night and suddenly noticed the fuel light came on ... I didn't even realize it had got that low so soon.

Hey Grimace.
Well, i know you want to know about gas milage for those who has broken into their cars. But from my experience with a non-broken into car yet, i can tell you that if you take it easy on the throttle, it's not as thirsty as dpmmsp says it is.

You'll laugh when you read the next line, but i'm still on my 'First' tank of gas! and with over just over 400km on my car, i can say with confidence i can make it to 500km before my low gas light comes on. From idling, regular 'street speed' driving, an highway speed drives, and never going over 4000rpm this car doesn't seem to use any more gas than a regular protege if i were to compare.

On the other hand, i'm sure if you push it from day to day, you'll see the gas guage move to empty in no time. I'm sure it's additive too. I have a good feeling that this car is thirsty on gas if driven in the higher rev range often (over 4000rpm shifts).

Dpmmsp, when you gases up, what kind of gas do you use?
Are you using the highest octane you can find? Sunoco Ultra 94? I plan on using that for my 2nd tank of gas. :)

Grimace, if you're looking for # of gas milage to the gallon, i don't know anyway to tell you the exact #.

I just filled up afetr the light came on it cost me 19 dollars (us). The manuel says to use 91 oct. why would u put more oct. in when a). you dont need to, and b). it can damage the engine? just asking.

If you know how much gas you put in, and know how many miles you went, just divide the miles by the gallons.

It won't damage the engine. If the weather is exceptionally hot and you're afraid of detonation (or, rather, afraid of the loss of horsepower when the computer lowers the boost level due to sensing detonation) then putting in higher octane isn't a total waste of money. Under normal circumstances it is.

Sunoco's ultra 94 is the best gas on the street....is clean burning and it is not much more than 91 octain.

I have been running this in all my vehicles...a MP3, a hyandia XL ( beater ) and a jeep truck.

Engine damage ? I have 300,000 km 200,000 miles on my jeep and never a hint of a problem with the engne.

well i have been told buy several differant people that it can harm the internals, but more than that. it is a total waste of money to put it in cars and trucks that only require 87, 89, or 91 oct. it dose not enhance the performance of the cars that do not require it!

The car is still too new to know exactly how much gas is guzzles. Some vehicles tend to change over time. There are a lot of variables in volved, eg, different drivers habits, road trips, highway vs. city driving. But who knows.

Start using the lower octane they require and send me the money you save. Your cars will run the same and I'll have some extra lunch money.

Sunoco's Ultra 94 is not the "best gas on the street", nor is it even the highest octane. That would be Sunoco GT 100 which is available at two stations within 20 miles or so of me. Also, octane rating has nothing to do with "clean burning".

at the risk of not starting a flame war especially with all this gas around.

Read the web site on the ultra 94 you will find it is a low sulpher gas...the lowest on the market...in Ontario anyway

I agree that the MSP is fairly new, but some (Canadian) owners have put quite a few miles on them already.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like I'd be spending a bit more on the MSP (once its broken in and I drive with "gusto") than on my current car, which I fill with about $22-24 worth of gas every 400 km or so (about 28 MPG, 120 km/h all highway). I don't mind spending more though for a car I like. :)

i cant wait to get that kind of mileage, i drive a 91 explorer right now(about 12-14 mpg) that costs about $30 too fill every 250 miles, and thats the cheap stuff.

I have already broken mine in and im getting between 275 - 310 miles to a tank depending on whether or not i'm doing alot of highway driving. And yeas i do get into it at least once each time I drive it .. Who wouldn't ? lol
