MSP Motor mounts

Hello all, I'm new to this forum here. I have a 02 P5 that has the pretty soft motor mounts. It was mentioned on protegeclub.com that the MSP had different (hopefully better) mounts.

What has been the experience of folks here with the motor mounts on the MSP? Are they soft...too stiff...just right? I'd be really interested in hearing from anyone who went from a P5 or MP3 to the MSP and can compare directly. I'm looking to get new motor mounts, but am not interested in the solid urethane ones that AWR offers...too stiff it seems.

Thanks for any comments.

They still look to be a little soft, I would fill them with Windo-Weld if you want to go with a cost effective solution. I run those on my old protege and they do wonders.

The MSP mounts are too soft??

I thought they were stiffer than the stock Protege sedan/5 mounts. Harder rubber.

Most people with the AWR mounts seem to be happy with them for everyday useage. I guess it all depends on what you are willing to give up.

I've heard this suggestion by others as well, sounds like a real good idea. But for the PITA that it is to swap the rear mount, I think I would rather pay for a nice set of mounts and not have to think of them for the life of the car. I wouldn't trust myself to find the right type of material, or fill in the mounts in a way that would guarantee they would last 10 years or more.

Any more opinions from MSP owners on their mounts?

i have the awr mounts, they are stiff, cause the car to idle a lil. harsh. but they do make the car feel a lot better than stock. Its just under 900rpms they are rough above that are they are fine. The stock mounts are a joke.
BTW i only have the front one in as of now. i wasnt aware the msp used different mounts.

I have the front one too and I agree 100%. When I first put it in, it felt a big differencebut now it doesnt feel like it vibrates as hard. I am happy with it.

Talked with someone that sourced the Mazdaspeed part numbers for the mounts. They are all the same as the other models except for the #3 mount. That's the one on the passenger side that goes from the timing belt area to the chassis. It's quite a bit stiffer than the other cars. Interestingly enough looks like the wheel hop on the ES/LX models might not be from the motor moving front to rear, but from ONE END of the motor moving front to rear and the motor actually twisting in the engine compartment. It would be interesting to see what happens on hard launches with the stock mounts and the hood off so you could see what happens.

Anyway, the #3 mount has a part number, but is not yet available. Should be in the next couple months. Might be a much easier solution to the problem as it's a HELL of a lot easier to get to than the rear mount.

Hey thanks traveler thats good to know. Keep us informed. Traveler have you written a how to do on the butterflys yet.

Thanks

I have both AWR mounts in my car ,I notice a bit more noise ,but its a small price to pay for being quicker of the line and no more jackrabbiting(hopping) Well worth the money

Does anyone know if the Mazdaspeed #3 is different? I bought "it" but it looks and feels no different than the stock one. Not cool. I've seen posts that say they are the same, I've seen post that say they're different. Anyone KNOW?

I think they just added a brace onto it for the msp? Do the other proteges have a strip of metal from the mount to the chassis on the #3?

Hi there, Bro-in-law!

I think the stock mounts are WWAAYYY too soft, even with the changes on the MSP. Both my wife and I (Resa says hi!) have wheel hop issues on hard launches. There is definitely room for improvement with the mounts...

There is a brace on my #3 (MP3). I don't know about "regular" Proteges.

I have this brace as well on my P5. I think its there just to add lateral stability to the the mount installation, doesnt do anything as far as the rubber softness I would think.
