MSP is a POS!

Hey now, no need to diss the SRT 4! Thats a well put together car also. Same goes for the cobalt SS. They Do what the MSP is supposed to do and in some cases do some things better. And I'll wager that they are both more reliable. While neither of them looks as good or handles as well as an MSP, they are far from stupid.
Guy down the street has 2 SRT-4's he is building. One is his and one is his girlfriends he lives with. I would not **** with either of them. His is putting down about 280 to the wheels so far and spins third gear when boosting... pretty sick and those motors hold about 450+ hp stock. Although I am sure I would eat his ass alive in the twisties... we'll find out because he is going with us to Deal's Gap in April... hehe...

I love my MSP. If you don't love yours, sell it. Maybe it will get a good home and someone will fix it and enjoy it more than you have.

How bad are SRT-4s at handling? I read really good reviews about them and i'm sure they are great handlers it's just that the msp is better.

One of our local guys has one. It has ALOT of body roll compared to our cars...

I know a guy that actually drove one home... went doing some "road testing" and brought it back the same day and went and bought a MSP. That's just one example though... I am sure others love it. It's all a matter of preference and how each person handles the drivability of a car.

I wouldn't mind an SRT-4. Alot of their drivers are cocky but those motors are insane! I saw one throw down 400 whp a while back at the dyno. It seems pretty rare. I don't see alot of them at least in CT. The MSP is definitely rarer though I never see MSP. Well except in my town where we have a big mazda dealer. To be honest it's funny alot of people on other car forums trash SRT-4s as being neons. saying things like "hey at least i'm not driving a boosted neon" but then they worship the WRX and Evo as if they are some super car. However if ya look at it. I mean a wrx and evo are just japanese versions of neons boosted just with imprezas and lancers. Same thing can be said about the MSP and cobalt SS, ain't nuttin wrong with that.

my feelings exactly. A tarted up econobox is a tarted up econobox. But the Lancer Evo and WRX are definalty a cut above most. They cost a lot more too.

They are no MSP in the handling dept. thats for sure. Stock they sit up waay to high and there is quite a bit of body roll. But overall its nothing that some But if I ever did get one, I would not touch the motor for a while. I'd spend my dough on suspension mods. With a little effort, The SRT could be made to handle as well as if not better than an msp. It's a lot easier to mod suspension than to mod a motor. Don't really want to turn this into another SRT vs MSP thread though. They both have their ups and downs.

If I could have the MSP's looks and handling, The SRT's motor and the reliability of the SRT's and ECO-TECS motor, I'd be set.

Aren't unique yes... correct... stupid?... hmmm I dunno... if you define stupid as one leaving you about 7 or 8 car lengths back from one red light to another then yes...

Back on topic... MSP's aren't that bad... I would say they are above average in regards to some other cars I would rather not mention. Hell I love mine... a tin can grocery getter with a pepped up motor and great handling, not to mention hella fun to drive... I'm keeping mine for a while... probably for a long while. I mean in a couple to a few years it wil be even more rare with idiots blowing them up and wrecking them left and right...

Just because the thread starter's MSP is a POS, doesn't mean that MSP is a POS in general.

Agreed. He's just expressing his opinion as is allowed in a free forum! It's just fodder for discussion. thsoe who think the MSP is great will always think that and those who think the MSP sucks will probably keep that opinion.

I just happen to think its a great but flawed car.

I agree MSP is great looking and handling car :but it needs better pistons, rods, lsd, that damn clunk noise and radio etc.....other than that ....I love it.(ughdance)

Oh my! Well I don't know what to say after reading this entire thread! I would have to say that I love my MSP. I plan on getting my lsd welded soon and getting a new clutch and flywheel at the same time. Plus I have a DSM AFC so my car will be just as reliable as any other. No broke lsd and no more bad tune. All for about 600 bucks! Sounds like a good deal to me. Plus the car is more than fast enough to get you into some trouble around town.

I got pulled over by an undercover State Trooper in a Jeep Grand Cherokee when I was doing about 95mph and passed him. He gave me a warning and let me go. Was the day after Christmas... hehe... said it was a belated Christmas present and to slow my ass down.

You didn't have warped rotors, you got taken. A replacement wastegate costs $60 from ATPturbo.com. Your engine mounts are probably fine and OMG a gasket is leaking after almost 60Kmiles, its a $15 gasket max. Sucks your LSD went out after warranty but it sounds like you're falling for all the dealership's lies and they are exploiting you.

I drove my MSP off the lot with 500miles and the largest non-maintenance repair I've done is replace the WGA. Amazing after 50K miles, 7 days at the track, 3 autoXs, 12psi drag races and everything else I've put my car through it runs fairly perfect everyday.

Yep. Chances are your dealership will continue to do it.

There's a fix for the clunk, it's permanent, it works well, it's not that expensive, I have it and love it. The radio.. aside from flaking out and people blowing their subs (probably by treating it like a lot more than the little 8" speaker that it is) I haven't heard too many issues. That being said, I can't stand kenwood head units and that's one part of the msp setup you'll never see entering my protege5. I do have the MSP door speakers though :D :D

pistons and rods.. the engines were made in japan, but the cars were transformed into MSPs at the port in the U.S. Did you really expect Mazda to totally retool their manufacturing facility in Hiroshima and elsewhere in Japan just for a limited-release end-of-model car? The pistons and rods are NO issue at stock or near stock boost levels, it's just when people try to make massive power out of the cars. Sorry Mazda didn't plan for that like 14 years ago when the FS-DE was first used in the MX-6, Probe, 626 and such.

The LSD has been fixed.. the latest revision MSP LSD is the same one used in the RX-8, MX-5, MS3, etc. They aren't having any problems with it.

If you want to ask me what one of the major problems with the MSP in stock form is, it's the motor mounts. They wear out far too quickly.
