MSP is a POS!

There's a fix for the clunk, it's permanent, it works well, it's not that expensive, I have it and love it. The radio.. aside from flaking out and people blowing their subs (probably by treating it like a lot more than the little 8" speaker that it is) I haven't heard too many issues. That being said, I can't stand kenwood head units and that's one part of the msp setup you'll never see entering my protege5. I do have the MSP door speakers though :D :D

pistons and rods.. the engines were made in japan, but the cars were transformed into MSPs at the port in the U.S. Did you really expect Mazda to totally retool their manufacturing facility in Hiroshima and elsewhere in Japan just for a limited-release end-of-model car? The pistons and rods are NO issue at stock or near stock boost levels, it's just when people try to make massive power out of the cars. Sorry Mazda didn't plan for that like 14 years ago when the FS-DE was first used in the MX-6, Probe, 626 and such.

The LSD has been fixed.. the latest revision MSP LSD is the same one used in the RX-8, MX-5, MS3, etc. They aren't having any problems with it.

If you want to ask me what one of the major problems with the MSP in stock form is, it's the motor mounts. They wear out far too quickly.
I know dude.I appreciate your explanation...I think The MSP was the start of a goodthing but we were the unlucky ones that got the first Mazdaspeed cars ...I still love the fact that is a rare ride after all!

indeedy do da... all that is left to say is good luck! and everyone go back to your previous actions

Someone gave you some bad crack ... have you even looked it up? They are holding value well. KBB doesn't even list it due to it's rare nature and it is one of Edmund's most wanted... pfffft... (loser)

Talk to me when you're trying to sell the car. Or anyone else that's sold the car for that matter. You fanboy it up all you want, but the truth is these cars aren't going for anywhere near their edmunds price. Edmunds pricing for private party for my msp is around 15-16K. I'll be lucky to scratch away with 11K. Do some research before you open your mouth. **Note** a bunch of threads about blown motors and LSD also don't help resale value.

I guess there a no hondas blowing their engines? I will say what I always say when the msp comes into question. I beat my car. I race at 15 with stock internals and untill recently I didnt have any type of ems. the only thing that has gone wrong with it is the turbo was replaced at 30,000 and my trunk popper broke. other thn that it was vac leaks and other stucf that I just didnt tighten enough. I think it is a solid car. I also think that if you are going to drive a car like you rented it you should expect the thing to break. this entire past summer I was waiting for my engine to blow. at one point I was running 20 psi.

The msp is the best car i have ever owned.

My car needed New Rotors at 30k
a thermostat at 35k
a new sub at 40k

There are Negatives to every car,
Our LSD's are Great performing Peices, But they are built Brittle

Oil leaks and brakes are Maintenance.

And rotors can warp under Bad driving conditions, Learn to use the Clutch On Long Desending hills.

Dealerships don't look at forum threads to determine the value of a damn car... pfffft...

Do my research?... ok here's my research... and a screenshot for you as your numbers are jacked up also...

So don't tell me you can't get 12k on a trade-in because I have friends who have done it as of late.

Well I would have to say ...

I dont want someone in the mazda community that is going to be bashing the car calling it a piece of s*** and so on. If you don't like the car ... SELL IT!

So stop the bitching and complaining. Get rid of the car, and buy your hardcore toyota.

lol! and I'm nervous when I spike to 12.5 in cold weather. If your car keeps holding strong...you might set a record for stock internals.

about the cobalt SS...

I drove one the other day, and was not impressed... at all...

The seats are uncomfortable as anything (the non-recaro seats... recaro is a special order option). They push you out... the lumbar support is TOO agressive and the seat bottom tilts slightly down. Also, no real side bolsters to speak of AND leather. Not a fun combination right there.

The car has that camaro feeling (looooonnng doors, heavy feeling, etc. but more refined interior than ANY camaro).

Also, great low end power but no way to get it to the ground easily. It wheel hops something feirce, to the point you almost dont want to get on it in first gear. It has a decent amount of body roll too. The clutch is numb, the steering wheel isnt telescoping (important to me, not to all) and the shift knob isnt comfortable. Also the steering wheel is the thickest wheel Ive seen in a long time.

It does have its upsides though! Great low end power, nice fit & finish. Awesome motor. It actually LOOKS GOOD. Its also very modable, so Im sure most of my complaints can be remedied, but Im picky when spending 23k or more on a car.

VERDICT: Great car with just enough gripes to annoy those driving. Im sure the owners are extremely happy with them, I just cannot see myself driving one for longer than a test drive.

PLUS the Cobalt SS community isnt as cool or as fun as our Mazda community :p. I like teh Mazdaholics in here.

Yeha those ecotec motors in the cobalt ss and ion redline are supposed to be built like tanks. I hear you can get a smaller pulley and do some fuel management and make serious power on stock internals with that car.

you hit the nail on the forehead. I'm with you on the looks too. I actually like how the cobalt SS looks.

Here you go:

Also, I think you jumped to conclusions when assuming i was talking about dealers judging value by the forums. As an informed buyer you research the product you are going to buy. Before I purchased my car new 4 years ago, I did said research. At the time, msprotege.com was #1 on googles search for this car. When the car was in its infancy, there were no/few threads of blown motors/lsd's. This is to be expected as it was a new car at the time. Fast forward to today. The same search brings up this:

mspsearch.jpg

#3 on the list. As a prospective buyer I would look around. In browsing I find threads of blown motors, lsd's, and numerious other little problems. In turn, this would cause me to to rethink whether or not I wanted this car or it would have an effect on how much I was willing to pay.

Again, I'm in not bashing the car, I still enjoy it, and I've had no problems with it so far::knocks on wood:: but as far as holding it's value to "real" consumers, it fails.

**also, when the car was newer, dealers did check the forums. This helped provide leverage when they wanted to throw your warrenty out the window.

i dont know if i really like how it looks, but it doesnt look bad. not real impressed with much but the engine. and spending 23k seems insane. but the ss community is filled with haughty priks, i havnt met one that didnt have the same attitude as any srt4 driver.

yeah....dealers check galves aka the black book. when you're going to buy a car and trade yours in, you'll get the galves value for your car, and buy the car you want for the edmunds/kbb value. that's how it works. so that nice little screenshot up there doesn't mean s*** unless you're selling it privately and someone actually buys it for that price, and really - good luck with that. however, run those same specs in galves, you're looking at $9200 or less

Smoof, what was that thing I told you about? I can't think of the name of it for my life. Thank God I sold them, not appraised them. I would never remember that damn book.

i can check for you on monday
