MSP HIDs

So just what IS the deal? They're illegal to sell now in the USA? Can you still order them from overseas? If so, where and how much? I just drove an EVO-8 and it made me sick how badass those lights were!

I've searched online for aftermarket kits, and they aren't there anymore. I thought I had read that they were made illegal because if they aren't aimed correctly, they blind oncoming drivers. But yeah, I can't find them for our MSPs. Anyone have info on this?

They have been made illegal for aftermarket sale in the U.S., but I think you can still buy them from outside countries. For example, Catz I'm pretty sure are still sold in Canada but they are more expensive now from when they were sold here on the forums.

My gf just installed them on her msp last week, So I guess you still can get them in this country then

I dunno much about them other than they work so much better than stock and she lost the use of her high beams with them

Yeah, i'm curious as to what can be done to correct my lighting problem also.. Last night it was raining here and I couldn't see shyt. In my opinion, I think the lighting on the MSP is totally WACK. And to add to that, I went out and bought the Silvania (sp) Silver Star bulbs. Even on NON rainy nights, they still suck major ass when driving on a very dark road. I think the problem could be easily corrected with a set of fog/driving lights, like on the P5 and MP3. So far, that's the only hangup I've had with my speed. Kinda makes me miss my PIAA's in my GSR. ;)

Really? I put the Silverstars on a few months ago and they were MUCH better than stock. But I'd really like to get some HIDs. I just "googled" and can't find them. I fact, Catz has a message on their website saying they have been made illegal because of glare to oncoming drivers. They say to return them for a full refund. (Yeah, right!) Anyway I'm trying to find a company overseas to get them from. Anyone?

What I've heard is, it's illegal for a US-based company to sell or install HID headlight kits (I believe it was effective after September 1, 2003). However, you can buy them on eBay or over the Internet, and install them yourself. I believe that shops will be fined $5000. per instance if they are caught selling or installing HID kits.

Anyhoo....here's a pic of my MSP with the Catz Hi/Low HID kit....I do get to keep the functionality of my high beams, while having a brighter, seemingly more solid beam of light for regular night time driving. Yes, they are bright, perhaps borderline blinding. But the way I see it, I wanna be sure someone sees me coming. *shrug*

Dang, so they are illegal huh. I wonder if any of the shops still have them and are planning to still sell them. If not, I'll probably just get me a set of good Fog/Driving lights and call it a day. The SilverStars do make a BIG diff. over the stock ones, but they just don't light up the (low areas) road enough for me. I need this too, considering the roads here in Va are shyt.

From what I understand they're illegal to put on cars not equipped with them from the factory, because of the lack of auto-leveling systems. Makes sense though, poorly aimed HIDs are not only annoying but dangerous to oncoming traffic. And even if the HIDs aimed properly at first, add a few passengers or some cargo and they're not so safe anymore.

I've got the CATZ 4500k Rising White HID's in my car. incredible. as far as finding dealers that still have them, yes you'll find them but quality of the kits you find won't be anywhere near as good as what you could find such as the CATZ kit for example. outlawing the kits has only allowed smaller companies to flood the market with s*** kits that odds are unsuspecting people will snatch up thinking they're getting a good deal on a real highly sought after product.

and blinding them is one way to guarantee they won't see you or anything else for that matter.. (confused)
