MSP Falling off?

definitely dynoing after all is said and done. i'll probably check out the track a few times but that isn't one of my goals really. will just do it for s**** and giggles

Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Make sur to write some impressions.

i'll probably start a thread about it. i think i'm allowed one after spending over 10 grand in just performance parts (and labor) alone

Good Grief man. You must be building one heck of a beast. What kinda numbers are you hoping for?

i dont know if it's really a heck of a beast. i spent about 1k on exhaust. 700ish on spec flywheel and stage2+ clutch. then there's 70 duro motor mounts (all 4), fmic and hardpiping with hks ssqv. mpi tuner and extra injectors. aem wideband, defi boost gauge, profec b2 ebc. welded lsd. then as far the engine goes, gas ported CP pistons, manley rods, 8.5:1 compression. swirl polish and 3 way valve comp job. ported and polished cylinder head, exhaust manifold, s-pipe, and completely gutted intake manifold (no vtcs/vics). mpi stage 1 turbo upgrade. add all the costs of labor, and then the price of pistons again, gaskets, bearings, etc. and then the core for the 2nd block since i put holes in the first one. not sure if i left anything out but that's pretty much it. i might be also upgrading the wastegate to a heavy duty one that can handle more psi. hoping to run daily at 22ish? as long as it's safe anyways, not sure yet. i really don't know if that would put me in the 'beast' category but i'm hoping. i kind of don't have expectations anymore, but if anything i'm hoping for maybe 330 whp/wtq at least.

i dont know why i started listing prices in the beginning and then stopped, but you get the idea

I would definatly call a 330 whp/wtq MSP a beast! I wish I could experience that. Sorry for going so off topic. Hope it all turns out well for you.

bout to have my msp be "born-again." couldn't buy anything for it for about a year now. BUT, i got a higher postion at work and a raise and now (fingers crossed) parts will come again.
first plans, new brakes and rotors (brake light on)... then new intake mani. then hopefully unichip. i can't wait.

I almost sold my MSP 5 times, due to issues with dealerships...3 tranny repairs and finally a full replacement, at 150,000 km I desided to keep the car, and also desided to do all the work on it myself. It's terribly addictive, but after putting my mods in I absolutely love the car and can't wait to do more work on it..and the fact that everyone knows my car agentorange in the area I could never part with it...well unless you offer me a rebuilt opel gt convertable :)

Now that the useless arguing seems to be over...

Yep, very similar experience. I do all my own work now, and did most of it even under warranty. When I didn't, I regretted it. I don't see me ever getting rid of mine. I learned from my first 323 GTX that parts for rare cars get really hard to find down the road, so I'm building a stockpile of spares so I can keep my Spicy on the road. So far I've got:

1 extra motor (built)
1 extra tranny (my original) w/ a welded LSD
2 extra headlights
2 spare fogs
1 extra driver's side axle
A full seat of correct seat skins
New front scuff plates
New floor mats

I've also kept all my original parts when modding, like the exhaust. I'll keep my original struts & springs when I swap in my Illuminas and Goldlines. I recommend this strategey to anyone who wants to keep their MSP for a long time. You'd be amazed how fast both OEM and aftermaket parts dry up 10-15 years down the road. Even the aftermarket stuff stops being produced at some point. GTX owners are resorting to stuffing whatever inserts fit into otherwise dead struts, pirating parts from non-Mazda cars, etc. just to keep the car on the road.
