MSP "Dead Zone"

OK, So I test drove my MSP for the first time last night (WOW!!).

Any MSP owners experience a dead zone in the power around 3700 RPM?

What do I mean by dead zone?
The power just dies, and the car almost wants to stall, the revs keep climbing, then the power comes back.

I'm hoping this will go away as the car "breaks in".

Anyone have similiar feedback?

I test drove two different ones at two different dealers and felt something similar. It was bad enough that I thought something was actually broken on the first car.

This is a common occurance and has been discussed here before. The car experiences the loss around 3700 - 4500 RPM's and then pics up again.

No one is sure how to alleviate the problem yet.

It's can probably be fixed by tuning if some had the ability to. Has anyone thought of using a APEXi AVC-R (boost controller). I know a couple of members have the Blitz SBC-iD. Both of those give you the ability to tune the boost pretty damn well.

Well, didn't the injen cai fix that? I remember seeing the dyno from spicymsp... Oh here is...

It's tough to compare the dyno chart to what I was feeling.
By the dyno, what I was feeling is where the torque starts to drop off, but the HP is still climbing fairly steadily.
It's the same before and after the CAI.
Can AGR or Steph offer any words of wisdom on this?
I ask them because Greg has a K&N, and Steph the CAI.
Thanks!

I know what you are talking about dude and it goes away after its broken in and the car has been running for like 10-15 minutes. Sometimes when Im running before that time has elapsed 2nd gear is pretty much a dead zone

I was going to mention this but I figured everybody who reported the problem let the car warm up to operating temperature before getting into substantial boost. Is everybody feeling a "dead zone" even when the engine is up to temperature?

This occured to me when it was hot.
They had just returned from the PDI test-drive, and out I went.
reminder: the car had 33km on it when I got in, and 46km on it when I got back to the dealer.

Mine has 900 miles on it now and falls flat on its face between that RPM range while it's at operating temperature.

Logan: Hello! I don't really notice it with the K&N. To me, it pulls pretty strong, but I guess, I haven't really paid too much attention to a certain rev range. I will look more closely tomorrow when I'm out.

No trouble here

I havent had any trouble other than the occasional clunk and it turns out now that I had a can of tire cleaner in the trunk! DOH!

But as far as power goes it's smooth all over the RPM range.
I have tried to get it to stumble or act up but so far at 1040 miles it hasn't. I even drove to Ft. Hood and back (a 2 1/2 hr drive from my house.) I drove all over the base without a single problem.
I didn't notice anything during the test "flight" either.

I have had the dead-zone for 3000 miles now... It runs great when it is cold, when it heats up the car is dead between 4500 to 5500 rpm's and then it kicks back in to redline. It performs this way 50% of the time. It is most noticable pulling in 2nd gear.

So far I am not too impressed with this car and sort of wish i had spent my 20k elsewhere. Hopefully I can get the power loss worked out of this thing and be pleased with the vehicle.

I am dropping it off at the dealership this weekend, but not expecting them to do much about it. I can't really b**** if I don't give them a chance. Atleast they should be able to get the anti-freeze leak fixed, so I don't have to smell that burning all the time... I swear I got an orange lemon!

Well maybe I was a bit harsh when I called my baby a lemon... I was feeling guilty when i was washing it yesterday... I am just frusterated and hope I can get straight with it.

I haven't actually found exatcly where it is leaking, but the tank is 2/3 empty and there is crusty green in the engine dept. in various places. So I know it is there.

Gazord - have you actually found a coolant leak - or just a smell??

Andrew:
I have seen no signs of any leak; but yes, I do smell coolant on occassion when I pull into my garage. But; I never see anything on the garage floor, or on the ground after going somewhere else. Also; no signs of coolant in the engine bay.
