msm turbo spoolup impressions

it seems the stock boost solenoid doesn't control much with turbo spool time because i installed my blitz ebc on the car,and disconnected the stock solenoid. i have the contoller turned off but the guage on it still shows boost pressure. i don't hit full boost until around 5k. anyone have any ideas of why this is? i've heard a downpipe and actually having the ebc turned on improves the spool up. the reason i'm asking this is because my msp would hit full boost around 3k. Is this because of the turbo itself, or maybe a slow wastegate? If this car hit boost as fast as the msp, it would have a much wider powerband.

I believe it has some control- mostly to keep the turbo from hitting full boost quickly to make the power smoother- but it feels the same with it disconnected. Strange, isn't it.

there are 2 reasons why the MSM is hitting full boost at a different time than the MSP.
1:the MSP has a bigger motor
2:the MSM runs more boost

but yes a downpipe will help out quite a bit probably.

Stock turbo, I've read it's a IHI rbh5, but alot of people say that's not correct.

the msp has a bb turbo so it will spool a ton faster

nope, no BB... But with the aftermarket EBC and a downpipe it makes the spool rediculously quicker.. Just ask FCMiata, he's ridden in my car..

FWIW, the stock car will boost relatively the same runing just the wastegate. You'll spool aout liek stock, and max about 7-7.5psi..

given boost controller and the FM downpipe I can hit at least5-7psi by 3000rpm now. It's too bad the stock ECU doesn't really give it enough fuel down that low...

Well, that sounds pretty good then. I have the ebc already, just need that downpipe.

^ the MSP turbo is ballbearing.

Whoops.. I read that as MSM seeing as it's an MSM thread and all...

FWIW, the boost contoller made a much larger difference in spool than the DP did.

yeah rx7gslse's car is very fun to ride in, spooled alot quicker than i expected, 2nd gear is fun too.
