MS6 Total Loss of Power?

Hey guys. So, for the 3rd time now, my MS6 has had a total loss of power while I was driving it (it's like the turbo is just doing nothing).

The car pulls until about 4000RPM, and then power just totally dies. It's like when you are driving an old car and the clutch slips (although the car still accelerates, it's like driving a civic).

Has anyone else with an MS6 had this happen? Does anyone know what the cause could be?

I have an appointment with Mazda on wednesday, but the problem is, that the other 2 times it has done this, the next time I get in the car it's fine. This is pissing me off though, if I wanted a frickin' 140hp civic, I would have bought one.

No check engine light ? or do you feel like its jerking at all ? or it revves up but nothing to the ground ?

Yup Newf, sounds really familiar (Hesitation issue with the MSP) but this is at least the 2nd guy on the forums that had this issue.

It could be an issue with the AWD distrobution also. I dont know the setup on the MS6, but it could be an issue with the transfer.

this sounds familiar????? I am not the first one with this problem then?

There is no lights to indicate any problems (no engine, no AWD) The AWD light should turn on if it's an issue with that right? It seems to me like the turbo is not creating booste. Feels like the bypass valve is stuck open or something. Anyone know where the other thread might be? I would like to see if the other guy with this problem has resolved the issue or not.

3rd gear has been acting up, I was going to ask about that as well, it sometimes jerks a bit when I am trying to accelerate quickly. But with the current problem, at 4000rpm it's like a smooth but instant total loss in power. No Jerking, but definitely no power.

IIRC it seemed to be an issue with the octane rating of the gas he was using. I dont know what came out of it, but I think he resolved it by putting in 93 octane.

(remember you have a boosted car, you need high test gas for it to run right and not blow up)

I put 92-94 in there and have never gone lower than 91. (most gas stations have a 92 octane max though)

Working fine so far without narry a problem. However, I would check all the hoses for one before getting real excited especially if you have power down low and then it suddenly drops off.

my concern is that I was one of the first ones to drive mine off the lot.. the other owner on this board (btf) who has had his for a couple months, is having the exact same problem I am (sounds like it at least). Neither of us put low octane gas in there.

Bummer! They took so long getting this thing out, I figured they had to have resolved any problems with the turbo. Hope it turns out to be something simple. Who's the other owner who has had their car for a couple of months and had the same problem? I only had a problem for the first few days until I burned through the 87 octane the dealer put in. I did notice what felt like a split-second drop off in power the other day, well after the turbo kicked in. I think the RPMs were at about 4500-5000. This hasn't been repeated but I'm paying real close attention to see if it does.

Yeah, there is a mazda tech on another forum who says there are a slew of MPS6 with the same problems in the US and Canada. They think it has something to do with the high pressure fuel pump's resistor pack, if that fails to function properly then the pcm will open the wastegate at 4000rpm without throwing a cel light.

Anyway, I hope that this problem getts solved soon, I hate not being able to trust the power.

Very possible. If the fuel aint getting there, it could cause problems. Im glad to see that Mazda/Ford built the PCM programming right in this so to aviod any issues with detonation. :D

I was one of the first to have mine and as yet, knock on wood, I haven't had this problem. I will, however, keep my eye on the issue should any hesitation arise.

hesitation would be an understatement... when you have no boost and the car has about 160hp... you'll know it.

mine is running fine again though.

How do you know you didn't get a bad batch of gas? It will do this if it has bad gas or an octane reading of lower than 91.
