MS6 - Thinking About Buying

I was reading the used car section of Canadian Driver and they suggested that diff and knock sensor problems were common and expensive to fix on the MS6. How true is this?

No opinions on this?

I haven't heard anything on the knock sensor, but I will say that it's very sensitive. Most people who have some method of monitoring it show it spiking (KR spikes) during part throttle, which can be perceived as the ECU leaning the fuel out for emissions.

The diff brace isn't as big a deal as people think. They did revise the brace later in the product cycle, but if you're not launching the car hard a lot, no need to worry. SU, Turbine Tech, and CP-e both have aftermarket solutions for under $300 should you need to replace it.

To touch on this a little bit with my experience...

I baby my car day to day. However, I autocross this car in the summer; and when I'm autocrossing I beat the piss out of this car (using common sense). Using launch control I launch this car from 4,200 revs at least half a dozen times per autocross event. So my car has been launched probably 90-100 times. I'm still on a 100% stock rear differential and I've had no problems to date. I'm also putting down a fairly larger amount of power than stock.

With that said, I do recognize the shortcomings in Mazda's design. However, it is not as detrimental as this car's critics would like people to think.

I still haven't got a car yet, and still umming and erring about the 6. There is one I have my eye on but the dealer has to lower his demands. I'm still impressed by the 6... and there are still things bugging me about it. Every one I have driven seems to have problems with the windows. I have read the fix and it works, but if I go back the next day a couple of others are out. I have checked out 4 of them at dealerships and every one has this problem. Is it a temperature thing maybe?

problem with the windows? whachu takin bout willis?

The problem in this link. 3 of the cars I have tried had at least one window out and were fixed by this. I revisited 2 of them and the problem had returned in both. A fourth was not fixable and was going to be taken back to Mazda by the selling dealership. It could annoy me pretty quickly if the windows didn't work every time I returned to my car!

The dealership might be disconnecting the batteries. That will cause this every time. Not sure about the one that you could not fix.

I've had my car almost two months, no window issues since I reset them when I got it home. The dealers may be doing something to the cars that is causing it...if the car still is under warranty then the repair should be covered even if it's used.
