MS6 AWD override?

Hello,

is anyone aware if the MS6's AWD controll can be overriden? Like putting it in permanent AWD mode, or putting it in FWD-only mode? Any "hacks" or workarounds known?

Thanks.

There is supposedly a small black box right next to the grey ECU under the drivers dash with a cable full of wires connected to it that if you disconnect will put you in FWD mode only. You'll get some lights on in the dash from the AWD being disabled.

Correct. An easier way is to just pull up your ebrake handle to the first notch. It will not engage your brake, but it will dis-engage your rear driveshaft. I would not try this on a 2wd dyno, though.

The e-brake solution wouldn't be advisable for driving but might allow to dyno on a 2WD dyno. I heard some Volvo guys dynoing that way.

I don't know if the transfer case will handle 100% AWD but shouldn't it so? It would be cool to toggle a switch and put it into permanent AWD mode when neccassary.

From what I hear the Haldex systems on these cars are Fragile and That Running them Permanently Would cause some type of damage over a period of time, because they are delicate systems, but I haven't heard of any failures so it might be just fine.

if you go through the Cobb Tuning forums, you will find a section where they mention the fact that the MS6 is capable of being set to any degree of AWD.

and they also mentioned how they loved the idea of creating a second (the first being their popular accessport) handheld unit to do nothing but control the AWD to any extent i.e. 100/0 (FWD), 50\50 (AWD), or even something as odd as 63\37.

the forum then goes on to discuss making the car RWD via this "handheld unit", but i would assume that upgrade would be more than just a plug in unit..and would have to include hardware. (since i already know the MS6's rear differential isn't near tough enough for that s*** lol)

It's amazing that Cobb is talking about things on the MS6 when they can't be bothered to produce any products for the car. I wouldn't listen too much to what they have to say.

I don't think that is true. They appear to be working on a lot of projects that are overdue. I think they had bad projection dates for getting the products to market.

very true.. yay for cobb (second)

but really they say that the AWD distribution is completely controllable via a standalone computer that does nothing but control how much power each driveline receives.

How do they go about limiting power to the front wheels when there is no center diff? They could make it 100 FWD all the time or any thing in between 100-0 to 50-50. You can only limit the power the engine puts out and the power to the rear via the AWD coupler.

You guys need to do some research. I can understand believing in a company, but Cobb has done nothing but blow smoke about MS6 products for some time. People were excited when they got an MS3 and were developing products for it because we all thought there would be some crossover, but it has become apparent there are too many differences between the platforms to allow it (I am mainly speaking of the EMS). Let's face facts, the MS6 is a limited production vehicle with relatively few owners who will mod, so there isn't much of a market. Free market rules. While I am not from Missouri, I still require some proof before I believe what I am told. Right now the only companies that have put in the effort to produce something for the Speed6 are cp-e and Xede. If at some future date Cobb brings something to market then I will listen to what they have to say, until then...

Yes the black box does work. I haven't tried the e-brake on the dyno, but I did disconnect the black box and run my car on a 2wd dyno.

hey i'm just writing what i read on an official forum. lol. i don't really care if its true, it would be sweet. but i wouldn't be able to afford it so whatevs.

also you are sadly mistaken when you claim that the only two companies to produce anything specifically for the MS6 are cp-e and xede..(blowup)..xede is anything but made just for the MS6. its made for any application that you would like to stick it on, and works only as good as it was intended to work on a wide variety of vehicles.

edit- wow i was posting on a thread i found in the cobb forums when i bought my car like 6 months ago...but i went to find it, and it has misteriously disappeared. damn cobb lol. but they still have posts regarding the active torque split differential system, and how it is controllable. up to 50/50 distribution, and atleast utilizing the 3 stock distribution settings. much like the sti's tarmac/snow/gravel settings...so...:)
