MS3 vs. GTI on Motorweek 3/13/10

Motorweek may air on different dates in your local area. But the next new episode, which is due to air on WUSF (ch 16) in Tampa this coming Saturday, 3/6/10, is supposed to pit the 2010 MS3 and 2010 GTI in a comparison test.

Check your local PBS listings, etc.

I'm sure they'll pick out the GTI like everyone else does. No biggie, since I'm a VW lover as well, but damn it pushes 30k fully loaded, and that's used G37 or BMW territory. The Mark VI is the new journalist boner.

Not to be a stick in the mud as I usually love these discussions, but it's been beaten to death.

You buy an MS3 if you want an affordable pocket rocket with good build quality and a little rawness.

You buy a GTI if you want and underpowered hot hatch with plaid seats.



But seriously, I love both cars. If the GTI had 240 to 250 horses (without being comically overpriced like the R32 is) then I'd consider it because it does seem a touch more refined than the MS3, but if I were buying any hot-hatch in the USA today, it would be an MS3.....unless the Astra VXR ever made it's way over here.

But at the end of the day. You buy what makes you happy.

Im partial to the euro focus rs, or the old peugot clio v6 (even though the drivability was bad).

But GTI's "refinement" is just a way of saying that the MS3's superior abilities in just about every measurable performance is too raw for more genteel, pansy types. Sorry, call me raw. I'll wear that badge with honor while pulling steadily away from the GTI.

BTW: We share the platform and a lot of parts with the Euro Focus RS, but they get a 5 cylinder Volvo sourced engine and about 40 more horses.
