ms3 Subwoofer pics, god dam coins....

So ive been having rattling noises coming from my subwoofer for quite some time now and i finally decided to take the subwoofer out and take the coins out. I had to take the bolts that hold the seat down and 3 bolts that hold the subwoofer inplace. I figured i would snap some pictures of the sub because i remember a thread questioning the size of the speaker. there are four bolts on top of the woofer box that need to be removed to expose the speaker.

you can do a LOT with a good enclosure.

Bose uses bad materials and parts, but damn if their guys don't know how to get ok sound from bad components.

yeah i think its listed as a 5.25" woofer.

I would imagine someone could find a really good 5.25" aftermarket woofer and try it in there to see if it helps out at all...the enclosure and the stock amp for it (i assume there is some sort of amp/crossover) seem to do a fine job.

then again, it would make sense to just leave that alone and throw an 8" or a 10" in the hatch to keep things simple with ~250-300 watts going to it. probably would sound about right and not be overly boomy. but im no sound guru, dont flame me

Ouch. I knew it was a 5.25" sub but with that fat surround it looks like it has the cone area of a 3". That poor little thing does put out decent bass for what it is. The only aftermarket 5.25" subs that I know of are made by Focal, which for the price of one of those you could get a pretty decent 8 or 10". I'm pretty set on the jack-cubby "stealthbox", I found an 8 that should suit my sq and spl needs

Only problem is that I don't think that dude is making the enclosures anymore. I have zero 'glass skilz, does anybody know roughly what a good shop would charge for a custom sealed jack-cubby enclosure?

After I saw that pic last night, I bought one of those really thin pioneer ppi? 12" subs. Only requires one cubic foot of air space IIRC. I just want a little more hit and lower frequencies not shake the bolts out of my rear swaybar. lol

cool. let me know how that turns out. i'd also like a "helper" sub hehe to add a little more thump, otherwise the stock stuff is ok for me (the tweeters up front could be crisper at times). i rarely use my hatch, so if i had to mount a little tiny hatch box in there it would be ok with me. i just don't look forward to getting an amp for it as well and doing all that ripping apart to run wires. (headshake

do they make a small box to go with the ppi thin sub? i wouldnt mind the stealthbox either, buddy has one on his evo and it works out great, granted i'd have to keep the jack somewhere but its smaller than a box.

i plan on eventually getting a 10 or 12 thin subwoofer and puting it in the hatch for extra bass...the stock is good but i want some low bass

i just don't look forward to getting an amp for it as well and doing all that ripping apart to run wires. .

But... that's the fun part of installing stuff...
