MS3 Running Rich?

So I now have around 1,500 miles on my MS3. From the look of the exhust tip, my car looks to running very rich. Could this just be the ECU during the break in peroid trying to keep engine temp down? Anyways the picture is a very mild case of the situation, I wiped the tip off so it looked brand new then drove less than 20 miles and this is what it looks like. Anybody else having this type of issue? What can I do to fix this? -Thanks

All the MS3 run very rich, its unfortnately a known fact. If you snag an A/F gauge you'll see it too. But they all get like that, and turn black with soot very fast. Thats just how they are, nothing can be done to change it unfortunately

You could clean that and polish it up nice and drive around the block and it would be black again. Its just how these cars are.
On a white car it gets especially bad because you notice the paint looks dull then you wipe your finger on it and have to wash the entire car.

lol..my car does that and its not even a ms3. ;P pretty much all mazdas do that haha.

if u really want it gone, ur gonna have to tune it properly

to eliminate the nasty smoke on the bumper portion itself, when I had my muffler and resonators removed and straight pipe in, I had the muffler shop put a longer pipe in place of the muffler portion to make the stock tip stick out about 1-inch more than the stock position, that way any smoke will clear the rear bumper and not darket it or dull the paint/curogated plastic area.

Yeah this thing really gets dirty fast. I tend to keep a rag in the trunk just for the muffler tip. I seem to be cleaning it off every day! Good thing it only takes a second.

I gave up on my tip a while ago. If you tune (ap or standback) you can get it to run leaner, but it might not stop the soot completely.

Amen.

My bumper gets dirty as hell

I have a white one and it gets really bad. After about 150 miles the back bumper gets pretty black around the exhaust tip

those carbon deposits make me glad i bought the black mica. doesnt really affect the bumper, just the exhaust tip.

but then i look at the roof and see how much pollen shows up each time it rains and have ample reason to complain about how quickly it looks dirty on black.

pick your poison.

Hmmm, if only there was color where the carbon deposit didn't show up. Something like a gray metallic. MGM FTW!

But seriously, the muffler reminds me of the one on my old 78 VW Rabbit diesel!
