So I took my car in for a clunk in the front suspension last week, they "tightened" up some bolts, and for the most part, the front seems solid again, but still semi in question... may still make some small... non normal noise. I drive 90% of the time with the radio off so that I can definitely look for problems.
About 2 days later, I hear a horrible clanking, clunking and rattling over almost every bump in the rear of the car, and the car felt VERY unstable in the back end... it actually sounded enough like it was falling apart... and was loud enough that if you were standing outside, and I hit a bump going by, you could hear it make all kinds of noise. So I read the other thread in this forum about the loose stabilizer bar bolt, looked under, came to find both of nuts on mine had vibrated almost to the end of the bolt... so I hand tightened them real quick since it was going to the dealer today.
I dropped it off this morning, the dealership had a Hertz rental agent pick me up and gave me a Hyundai Sonata and said they would give me a call. Just got off the phone with the dealer, they came to notice both of the loose stabilizer bolts in the rear, but... I also had a BENT rear passanger strut... I was like how the hell did that happen?!?
My car has < 800 miles on it... never been beaten on, rarely driven spiritedly (still kinda babying it), and never cornered hard. I have hit some big bumps in the streets of Norfolk, VA, but they are the same bumps my old Civic Si used to go over as well as every other Norfolk motorist. Because my Stabilizer bolts were soo loose, threads on both were mangled, they ordered a new strut (maybe both sides) and may need the links to the stabilizer bar. Supposedly everything was overnighted and should be in tomorrow... then they will start inspecting the front end again.
I definitely suggest everyone be sure to check those rear bolts asap, even if you just drive the car off the lot... hell have them check everything before you buy it.
