MS3 Owners: Show us your wheels

Yep, after reading the reviews, I've come to this realization. I've had these n3000 tires for over a year and I've had 2 sets on my 3g eclipse, so they are not crap tires by any means, but I know there are much better out there. They will stay on my OEM wheels for winter and harsh months. I am looking forward to the upgrade with the Hankook Ventus V12s.

Yeah, you can't really compare the Hankooks he's looking at to the those Dunlops...They're entirely different categories of tire.

Um, in the car & driver test, the Hankooks finished 2nd place only to the Dunlops first. How are they completely different categories?

The Hankooks are a "Max Performance Summer Tire" and the Dunlops are an "Extreme Performance Summer Tire."

Some might call that "splitting hairs," but having had experience with many tires in BOTH of those categories, I would beg to differ.

apparently, the Dunlops are supposed to be great. The pricing on the Hankooks is pretty prime, however. I went with an A/S setup, and let me tell you, I am very pleased. I went with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus in a 225/45R18 size. They look meatier without being overbearing. Also, they are a tad noisy, but silent compared to the stockers. They have like a 40,000 tread life, and these motherfuckers are so damn sticky!! Haha, they bite real hard, and it really surprised me...

just my .02, hopefully it wasnt totally useless. Probably was tho

all feedback on tires are helpful for future reference, my friend! For me its between the Dunlops and the Hankooks! Thanks though :)

can you give a personal review on both tires? Thanks for the correction by the way, I see what you mean now.

While I have not owned either of those two particular tires, I have autocrossed a car on the Dunlops, and I've owned a set of Kumho XS and a set of Falken Azenis RT-615s. I've also owned Hankook R-S2s, Nitto NT-05s, RE050As (the OEM MS3 tire, of course), and various other (mostly discontinued now) tires in the the same categories (various levels of "summer tire").

That Car and Driver article says it all right at the beginning of the section about the Dunlops:

Both the Dunlops and the Kumhos felt head and shoulders above the other tires...

In terms of raw dry performance, it simply isn't fair to pit tires that are basically engineered for autocross and light track duty (the "Extreme Performance Summer Tire" category) against the other high performance street tires.

The line is beginning to blur a little bit, but I have a feeling that as that line gets blurrier the "Extreme Performance" tires will again raise the bar.

Of course, I'm sure one will see markedly better treadlife out of the Hankook v12s than the Dunlops, so if that's really important to you it should definitely be factored into your decision.

I don't really think you can go "wrong" either way. It just depends upon what you want out of your tires.

BBS RG-R in Brilliant Black

Toyo Proxes 225/45-18... nearly bald. New tires are going on this weekend. Probably going to Goodyear Eagle GTs in 235/40-18.

I wouldn't recommend the GT's. I have a set on my Mini, and while fine for the wife, it's not a tire I would put on this car, especially since you already have a winter setup.

Really? I have several friends with them on their Mazdaspeed3s and just rave about them.

That helps alot man, thanks! Yeah I am looking at more longevity, and really they have received some excellent reviews. And to finish 2nd on Car & driver's list, they must do pretty well. I don't track my car, so I don't need an extreme tire. I just want something thatll handle good and hook up on the street for the times I decide to have fun. These nexen just turn over at the drop of the hammer...spin city!
