MS3 not on 2008 Automobile All Stars list

A few issues back, automobile had a 10 best cars list of some sort and I remember seeing that the VW GTI and the Volvo C30 were on it and somehow the MS3 was not. Does anyone remember this and can anyone give reasons as to why the MS3 was snubbed. I mean I can understand the GTI but the C30 makes it in and not the MS3. I don't even own one and it struck me as odd. And to top it all off, the only Mazda that did make it, WAS AN SUV!!!!

Opinions?

I agree with you^^ The Top 10 cars for MotorTrend didn't include the MS3 either. I was like, WTF??!! I guess they wanted to give others cars a chance to shine....noobs.

First problem is it's Auomobile Magazine... I MIGHT use it's pages to qipe my ass... Maybe, if there's no pine cones around...

Might as well as use the new issue of MotorTrend to wipe your ass too, since the MS3 isn't in there...(headbang) (lol)

I really don't understand it. All these accolades then...nothing!

If they wanted to give other cars a chance to shine, they would take off the atrocious looking 335i sedan that seems to be on the cover of everything and win every comparo it enters. Talk about hogging the spotlight. But seriously. Volvo posemobile hatch yes! MS3 perfomance hatch no? something seems fishy.

Mazda didn't pay up lol. The magazines probably make a car on a ten best list according to the free stuff the automaker sends them.

Car and Driver is the ONLY trusted magazine in my opinion. The rest don't matter.

C&D has the benefit of writers who have been around for decades who know what they're talkign about. The other mags jsut dont stack up.

The only performance value any of the magazines that aren't lifestyle centered (SCC, MMFF, IT, what have you) meaure is metric s*** ton of dollars brought in. Mazda didn't penny up, they got snubbed.

probably because the MS3 is viewed as more of a trim of the 3 and not a car of its own and the 3 did make it into the runner up category.

plus mazda didn't pay enough

Where are you all coming up with this, "Mazda didn't pay up?" I'm just curious; someone school this padawan in the way of the farce...lol

there's never any real evidence saying things like that but the business aspect of running a car magazine jumps out. think about who advertises in that magazine - auto manufacturers. advertising brings in money for the magazine. if a magazine is negative towards a manufacturer that manufacturer will probably pull back from its advertising (and give them later access to new cars, worse selection, etc...). if a magazine is positive towards a manufacturer and, i don't know, puts them in a 10 best list, maybe that manufacturer advertises more in the magazine. it's the same reason you'll rarely see a truly negative review of a car. the worst you normally get is they could have done better or it didn't live up to expectations

OOOOOIc.. lol Figures. Thanks, o' wise one. lol

Umm, its pretty much common sense. The most critical of any magazine article about any car is hardly critical. You could create the worse car known to man, and dump a good cool mill into any magazine, and they find a way to make it sounds at least buy-able. I mean, s***, the Tundra just won Truck of the Year...uh, wait, three major recalls and the inability to actually be used like a real pickup truck, and its truck of the year? Oh wait, thats right, because Toyota has dropped massive dime into the coffers of MT. I wouldn't even say C&D is legit any more.

The reviews come free of charge. Give the magazine a car, and they'll review it. But if you wanna win any of those Vehicle of the Year/Century/Time Period/Eon/Whatever, you have to be ready to pay for it.

ummm....right, well I try not to think about s*** like this... I just read..lol....well unless you call looking at pictures reading, then yeah...lol

i dont care if no-one talks about it. i dont care if they dont add it to the best of the best, and simply i dont care what anyone says about it. as an owner, all i know is that this thing, out of the box, is by far, the best thing out there!!!!! the adrenaline that it gives, is good enough for me!

oh ******* well, mags are mags, all i know , is that i only subscribe to C&D. ms3 is a good car period :)

that is true for some reason i have noticed motor trend PRAISES Bmw's no matter what they come out with. The must pay top dollar.
