An oscilloscope is used as a fault diagnostic instrument for electronic devices. It has a display unit with a moving dot (trace) that gives a representation of the voltage versus time for an electronic device. An oscilloscope creates a visible two-dimensional graph of one or more electrical potential differences. The horizontal axis of the display typically represents time, which makes the instrument useful for displaying periodic signals. The vertical axis usually shows voltage.

A typical oscilloscope is shaped like a rectangular box which has a small screen with several input connectors, control knobs and buttons on the front panel. To aid in the measurement, a grid called the graticule is drawn on the face of the screen. Each square in the graticule is known as a division. In its most basic mode, an oscilloscope repeatedly draws a horizontal line, which is called the trace, across the middle of the screen from left to right.

That is about the best explanation of of a scope, I, as a layman could get. So what would the defective coil look like and how to attach for this application please Tony

Welll, changed the third coil pack, replaced the throttle body. Throttle body was pretty dirty but none the less, not the problem. Still showing the same symtoms. Let me you ask all who are experiencing the sputter... Do you have a 3" TBE? Im thinking all we need to do is tune this b****...but wtf???

Is your problem only at idle or throughout rpm range? And under full Throttle?

Only during idle. Thats why I think its a tuning problem

Nope, when we pulled the plugs, only the third was fouled. Changed that one and still the same issue.

it doesn't matter, which plug is fouled. Like i've told you 10 times already, you need to replace all coils and plugs, you have a random misfire code!

Until you replace them all you will continue to have the same problem.

And how do you know that for sure....??? Can you explain your logic. How is it that you are so definite the issue s in fact the coil packs. Couldn't it be possible that there is another issue at hand considerig I am burning rich as it is already. And if I am burning rich, then of course I would be getting a misfire code considering there is not enough spark to burn off the excess gas.

I am so sure, because i've seen first hand the same problem you are having a few times. I've seen brand new ms3's with 10 miles on them thrown a p0300 code and have had to replace the coils and plugs.

knowledge007, did you replace the coil yourself, or did you find a dealer to do it? Also, what's the big deal with going back to the stock intake from a CAI? It takes like 10 minutes to throw back in there...(uhm)

Maybe b/c I don't have the ******* thing...if I did don't you think I would have just went back to stock. And what difference does it make if I replaced the coil myself or not. The fact of the matter is that the third was replaced and still the same problem. So I think its safe to say that even if I decided to change it myself I am not the problem.

Anyway, we are going to try and replace the last 3 coils anyway just to see if your right MSP. I hping you are b/c I have had about enough of this s***.

Sir I know you are irritated but we are trying to help out. I believe the Mazda boys, after replacing would throw a scope up on there to make sure the coil or coils were doing what they were supposed to. and bnoon my misfire is gone after regap and ecu learning curve . Pretty bad for awhile though and very unhappy was I.

Since Granatelli seems to have a stick up their asses, djquik1 has been in talks with Sniper Tuning. They confirmed they WILL be making high output COPs for the ms3, ms6, and cx7 IF we can make an order of 200 units (50 sets). We already have 20 sets by this interest list, so I figure if we can get at least 60 names on the interest list, we can go foreward with the GB.

Note: Typically 95% of our customers do a direct swap in with no issues meaning the Sonic-V coils do not typically require a tune, however, the coils have been known to lean out the combination ever so slightly over the OEM coils. If you have an extreme combination we really recommend checking things out with a Air/Fuel ratio monitor just to be safe.


According to this they have an 80k voltage rating and they are comparing to their competitor(Granetelli) directly in this.

They're GB pricing for 8 coils is $449.00, so for us it should be $225.00 + shipping. That's not too shabby IMO. I'm contacting them directly on monday to get all the details squared away. They will have to make these for us from scratch, so eta may be a bit off. They will need at least 50 committed orders of 4 COPs a peice to procede. The way it will probably work is, they will gather our billing info, hold it until the units are finished, and charge everyone on shipping day. Once I get things squared away with them on monday, I will be closing this thread down and openning the committed GB thread. I'll send everyone on the list a confirmation PM to make sure you're all wanting to get IN on the GB. This list will not be transfered over.
