my speed3 horn is sooooo bad. its a high pitch tone that doesn't seem that loud. been like that since i got it a couple weeks ago. anyone else think so too or is there something wrong. should i take it to the dealer? i hate doin stuff like that if i can help it cuz i hate wasting 34334 hours at the dealer for little things.

The same goes the protege horn, weak and doesnt do a damn thing. Thats just the mazda horn for ya......replace it with a louder one.

I have the Hella Supertones on my 3. Much needed improvement over stock. At a 118 dB these say get out of my way!

do you know if they would fit in the engine compartment of a speed3? its pretty tight in there.

The MS3 horn is kinda wimpy isn't it. I thought that it was just a Mazda affliction, but I recently heard it on a new non-Mazda marque.

Not sure on a speed. I am guessing that in front of the radiatior the space would be similar. The pic below shows where mine are mounted. The picture is from when I was installing driving lights behind the lower grille. That is why my bumper cover is off...

the horn from my mx-6 is loud and deep i think it may be an old taurus horn. Im gonna try getting that on there.

if you install a hella supertones horn or the hella compact trumpet horn, do you need to connect them to the car battery? i'd prefer to avoid that. also, where is the horn located on the speed3? if i have room i think i want to install the compact trumpet horn but im still shopping around.

The most common replacement horns people have used are:
-Fiamm Freeway blasters ~$30
-Hella Supertones ~$45
-Stebel nautilus compact air horn ~$35
-wolo dual tones ~$25

I have the Fiamms in my car and I love them. If I were doing it again I'd go with the stebels. The reason is they're a little louder than mine, and if you chirp the horn when you lock the doors the air compressor gets power for such a short period of time that it will actually chirp vs. giving a full power blast.

funkitup1, My Fiamms are wired to the OEM horn wire with a Y-adapter. I know agbullet's hella's are hooked up the same way, and the wolo's as well. Not positive if you can hook up the stebel's without a relay, but I imagine it would work okay.

the 3 we just bought didn't even come with a horn from the assembly line - we had to take it in for warranty work on the horn and they found it simply not to be there

No Battery connection!

Just jump it from the original cable that the horn has already and ground each of the horns. You dont even have to run the relay, since the car has airbags the car horn already has a relay in the line.
Very simple to install.
