MS3 + All Season Floor Mats = Potential problem

Thanks B1gham. Your post prompted me to get off my duff and send the letter off to Mazda. I will post their response.

I'm a new MS3 owner (almost a week now!), and I bought the mats with the car. It's happened to me a couple of times now, including while merging onto rush hour traffic; scared the !*&@# out of me...
I called Mazda, and they said they would be revising the part; no other comment other than to stop using them. Apparently, someone from the east coast called yesterday and was extremely upset with them, so they are fully aware of the issue. Squeaky wheel and all that, I suppose.

I don't know what you need to due but either get rid of them, cut them etc..etc. This is obviously very dangerous....last fall here Montreal, it is suspected that the floor map got jammed under the accelerator or brake pedal or both. This women couldn't stop and went through a busy intersection, got hit from every direction. Her 2 kids survived but she didn't.

This problem is not only isolated to MS3 owners! I have had the exact same problem with my Mazda5 and the all-weather mats. Scared the s*** out of me the first time it happened! I had to shift to neutral and then reach down and move the mat while the the revs were bunching off the limiter!! Had my wife been driving with our baby when this happened....???

On an MS6, the accelerator pedal hits the All Weather Floor Mats meaning it does not go down to the floor as far anymore. I plan on cutting the corner out tomorrow.(ughdance)

Updated!

Update: I have been contacted by Mazda North America. As has been stated in this thread, Mazda is aware of this problem and has told all service departments to stop selling these mats to MS3 owners.

They have asked my dealership to rectify my issue at a local level. They called me up and the Parts manager offered to buy them back from me. He also contacted Mazda to find out what they were doing about the problem and discovered that they are redesigning the all-weather mats for the MS3 although there is not a definite timeline for when they will be available.

Just to confirm. I picked up my MS3 today and low and behold the parts guy said the all weather mats don't fit the MS3's. no word on an updated mat.

on a side note I was told the trunk (cargo) mat doesn't fit either by the parts dude.

carry on:)

My dealer refused to sell me some mats so i went to Canadian Tire and bought some cheapies and cut the s*** out of them to make sure they fit right.

Thanks to all for posting this. I cut my mat before even installing it. It's clear it would have been a problem, but now it's cool. The internet is good for something!

After having this happen to me a few times I would hate for someone to be injured or even killed because I didn't bother to share my experience with the forum.

I got a call from the my local dealer (So. Cal) saying that there is a recall on the mats. They said to just come in and they will replace the mats. Not sure what they will look like yet. They said there is no cost involved.

I received a recall notice in the mail. It said to turn in both front all-weather mats to the dealer, and new front all-weather mats would be shipped to me when they are available (4-6 weeks). A new set of carpet mats will be included too! Probably to make up for all the salt and snow that gets on the current mats with no all-weather mat to protect them.

I hope the dealer likes the cutouts I made in the driver side mat...

I love how with all the other problems the ms3 is having, they decide to recall the damn mats. I got the recall notice also.

I just dropped off my mats during lunch; hopefully the new ones will come soon. BTW, the rear cargo tray mat fits just fine in the speed3

I check my mats last night. I'm not sure if I have a newer version of the mats but I have about a 1/4 inch clearance from pedal to mat(uncut).

All the other problems? I guess I am lucky - no problems at all over first 6000 miles with my MS3(yawn)
