MS CAI or Cobb SRI

I'm interested in that answer as well from people that have them. I dont have either so I'm just going by dyno numbers, a cobb sri is rated at 11hp and 16ftlbs where if you got the injen cai its rated at 26hp 29ftlbs (havent seen ms cai numbers). I dont see them being equal in performance but for reasons given, cheaper, easier, less worry, the extra gains dont seem to be that much of a deciding factor for everyone purchasing the cobb.

Doesn't Cobb do their testing on a Mustang Dyno via high elevation? That probably explains the lower #'s.

Cobb tests on a mustang dyno at higher elevation = lower numbers

Injen tests on a dynojet a lower elevation = higher numbers

I'm sure we don't want to make this a cai vs sri fight or start arguing about heatsoak. However, I took some numbers with my dashhawk and posted up on another board a few weeks ago. Once you're moving the IAT on the sri becomes equal with ambient very quickly, if not immediately when it's under 100 degrees outside. Heatsoak is almost not an issue

I think the SRI gains more than 11whp. It felt like a lot more power to me, but of course butt dynos aren't accurate. I would say at least 15-20whp.

Too many factors (temp, humidity, elevation, type of dyno, etc.) to compare dyno #s unless their are ran back-to-back on the same car. The important thing to remember with any of the quality intakes for our cars is: it's better than stock.

I didnt want to start a cai vs sri debate again, I was just curious myself. I didnt know what kind of dynos each used so that makes a lot of sense. Anything is better than the stock air box for this car that is for sure.

No, lets argue. LOL... There is no way a short ram is producing what a CAI is. For as long as CAI's have been manufactured for everyday people like us to order/install the CAI has proven to have better gains across the board. Go to any Honda, Nissan, or other tuner forum and the CAI's are out performing Short rams. The only advantage to the Cobb SRI is the install time and ease of uninstall. No one is running their cars through 12 inch puddles and if they are they deserve Hydro-lock. I can install and uninstall my CAI in 20 minutes. However, the Cobb SRI sure is pretty under the hood! Anyone got one I can borrow?

i'm gonna trade someone my injen for a cobb if i can find someone. i love my injen, it just seems to be a lot less hassle with the cobb.

If we are going to argue about cai and sri, talk to my buddies who hydrolocked their motors... and not driving through standing water, just from puddle splash.

Also the main reason to get a cai is for lower intake temps.... people claim the sri pulls nothing but hot air, but I proved with my dashhawk that once moving, IAT = ambient air temps

(and I can see your next arguement, I really need those 10 degrees when I'm sitting still......)

I tell ya, hydro lock is rare and they did something to get it running puddles. With the undercarriage on these things, no way! to suck enough water to hydro.... Anyway, do what makes you happy. I just know for a fact that if you are looking for HP the CAI will give you more than a SRI, dashhawk or not.

mazdaspeedster3 - Would you be so kind as to provide us hard evidence as to what you say is indeed true? I mean hell if the CAI would give me more hp I might reconsider. I haven't seen that proven though.. So yeah if you can post some hard evidence that would be great :)

I wouldn't call it puddle splash if it was enough to hydrolock an engine, it must have been one hell of a puddle. I've yet to see a dyno show equal or more power gained by having a sri than a cai, I'd like to see someone post those numbers if were talking about evidence. I dont care about the IAT's just because the air temp is the same doesnt mean its adding the same amount of power. I had a short ram on my last car and loved the sound but the cai's made double the power.

Guys it is Ms3077 just trying to start this BS again. Hard2kill=ms3077=not in the Philippines=fail.

Just let the thread die or it will turn out the same as before.

I am actually curious on this though I'm not trying to fight with anyone. I'm looking to purchase an intake in the future. The testing on different dynos makes sense but I dont see how the cobb would be equal to a cai in performance. I'm not saying the cobb is bad in any means I'm still considering it as an option for its price, ease of install, and sound but for overall power I dont see how its at the level of a cai. There has to be a reason to pay the extra money.

Dude, what in the hell are you talking about? lol!!!

But yeah letting this thread die would make sense as neither party can provide "proof" in what helps produce more power than one or the other. However, I do believe there were a few members that tested a CAI and SRI on same Dyno same day and the results weren't notable. Either way we're all going to have our own opinion.

i have the mscai and it's been on the vehicle since it came from the dealership. i like it a lot.
though i'd be curious to know how the cobb performs
