Its all rumors at this point.

A MPS/Mazdaspeed2 would be an awesome competitor of the VW Polo GTi.

I read in an automotive magazine here in Portugal that it really isn't just rummors. Something like 2009 or something like that we should be expecting it. I hope it's true. I really like the new 2. Saw a neon green(or whatever the real name is) on the road the other day. A big improvement from past 2's.
