The five wire sensor is a better way to go. It is still not the same as the dyno but it is better then the most AFR kits out there.paulmp3 said:i just checked... mine has 5 wires(nana)

I know deckedoutmp5 had some issues with cold starting..MPNick said:How cold does it get in the winter snow belt that you live in? I am sure that people who live in cold parts of the contry have starting problems.

also pat on a side note. my wife and i need to come to DFW and hang out with you.
Yep, those are issues. But as I have said, propoer tuning fixed them.igdrasil said:those are issues...or not?
I remember when he got the new maps, Before them, He had to crank the car 10 times. With the new map, he had to crank it 3 times.
Ahhhhhaaa! Are all of the problems fixed? It would be nice if people that are running the bigger injectors would post about how they work on the Protege. So far the only one who has made any post about them was Terry. It seems to me that from is post you can see that the bigger injectors had problems.StuttersC said:Yep, those are issues. And some of the problems were not caused because the injectors were larger!
Little to no starting problems. How much starting problem to you get with stock injectors?freekwonder said:pat - he got better maps from turboage and had little to no problems starting.
Dana, are you tuning the MAF yet? How did you car start last winter with the turbo kit and exhaust system, with the high flow cat? When you and I went out for a drive I told you that I felt you needed to add fuel at idle and light throttle. Did you ever try to add fuel at idle with the MAF? This is all part of tuning your car. You made more the the MPI Tuner change.Kooldino said:I figured I'd chime in here and mention that I get occasional cold start problems since i put the MPI tuner in my car. If it's REALLY cold and I let the car sit for a day or two, I'll sometimes go to turn it over, and just as it's about to start, it'll die. After that, it starts up fine.
If you have a free flow exhaust, or maybe a breathter on your valve cover, you will be a little on the lean side. This will cause I cold start problem. You need to add a small amount of fuel at idle and light throttle. May also hear some very small popping sounds from you exhaust system every now and then if you are lean.igdrasil said:mine do that too and im stock...everyday i start the car it will missfire if i try to accelerate...why does that happens?
Nah, I have zero reason to do MAF tune right now.MPNick said:Dana, are you tuning the MAF yet?
I turned the key, it'd kick right up.How did you car start last winter with the turbo kit and exhaust system, with the high flow cat?
No, I didn't add any fuel off of boost. There's absolutely no reason that I should. In fact, the car didn't run well at first in that one area where you ran extra fuel on my car while off of boost. I don't understand why you'd want me to run more fuel off of boost...When you and I went out for a drive I told you that I felt you needed to add fuel at idle and light throttle. That's not the same problem I have at all. Check your plug gap and make sure they're not too cold.igdrasil said:mine do that too and im stock...everyday i start the car it will missfire if i try to accelerate...why does that happens?
My plugs are one stage colder than stock.acidbbg said:Could be the plugs you are using..if they are 2 steps colder than stock..you will get that type of issue..when it's cold outside..the ecu dumps lots of fuel to get the car to warm up..and as soon as it does..it begins to pull fuel!
I know when we drove your car it had a few lean pops out of the exhaust. When we added some timing you can hear it more. You have a turbo kit, free flow exhaust system and the stock air filter housing is not there any longer. You need to adjust for that change. Maybe a extra crank when it is real cold is not a problem for some. Why not tune for the problem and get it to start like stock?Kooldino said:Nah, I have zero reason to do MAF tune right now.

Nick, i honestly i cant remember. i dont know about extreme cold. but after the new maps when ever i would see him start the car it would start right up. but that was only after sitting for a few hours. sitting all night in the cold im not sure if he had any problems after the new maps. with stock injectors i believe his car start up right away i think it was mainly with the 440cc he had problems.MPNick said:Little to no starting problems. werd... i have the same issue... it always starts first try, but sometimes it takes the xtra second or so to crank over.. I thought it was because my battery sucks... which it does.Kooldino said:I figured I'd chime in here and mention that I get occasional cold start problems since i put the MPI tuner in my car.
