MPG Spread Sheet

I'm going to be keeping track of my MPG using the following spreadsheet. If anyone else wants to use it, feel free. The columns highlighted in grey are automatically calculated.

I'll update my own as time goes by.

I got about 14 mpg my first tank of gas. I expect to do better as I put more mileage on it and I break her in.

I use similar, I have graphs tracking price of gas and average mpg, but I didn't include them. They are simple XY graphs...

Just updated my spreadsheet -- this last tank of gas I got about 14mpg, mostly city driving. Still in the break-in period (haven't even crossed 500 miles yet).

FYI my gas mileage is on par with yours and I noticed I squeezed a couple more mpg (up to around 16 now) from keeping my rpms low and rarely engaging the turbo.

I'll be watching it with driving both ways... I know the first tank of gas I tried to go each on the RPMs and engaging the turbo... 2nd tank not so much... and this tank I'm being even less careful. Ultimately, I have to keep telling myself not to get too nitpicky about it... I knew I was buying a car that wasn't great on fuel efficiency. I do expect it to do better as I break it in more.

wow, not flaming or anything but.... I cant say that I watch my gas THAT close. I judge everytime I fillup with my trip... but thats just too much work.

and yes, Im using premium on a FI car... so I see same/worse gas mileage than you do...

I got 21.08 and 22.67 on my first two tanks, respectively. Couldn't be happier! (first)

Newly updated spread sheet. I'm up over 1,300 miles now on the odometer and I got 18.18 mpg this time around.

specific tanks don't matter so much as the overall number. you can top it off a little more one time and get another .5 gallons in there. that makes a difference. over time those ups and downs tend to flatten out and you will have a more accurate idea.

i've plotted gas mileage over date and throw in a trendline to see how much, if any, it is trending up and down.

i do it to both gas mileage over time and gas prices over time too (i'm a big nerd in my spare time away from the cockpit)

I know they can top-off different. I do have a rule of going only to where the pump automatically goes off. I don't try to get more in or round off the number. I figure the slight difference isn't going to be huge. I'm seeing a mostly upward trend right now which is what I expected as the vehicle gets broken in. If over the long haul I end up averaging around 20 mpg, I'll be happy.

Updated today. Recent tank was 17.23 MPG. Down a bit from the last, but not much. I was hoping for a little better, but still okay.

Updated. Sadly, this time around it was only about 15 mpg (14.79 to be exact). That's with ALL around-town driving. 1,843 miles on the odometer.

Thanks CXRabbit. I'm using your spreadsheet. I put it on my Treo smartphone, so I have the spreadsheet and fill it in before I leave the gas station. (talk about a nerd...) Three fill ups so far - all above 18mpg.

after two tankfuls of mostly around-town driving (w/ few highway trips mixed in) we're averaging in the mid 16s. a little over 500 miles on her now.

Jesus that is some piss poor mileage...maybe I won't talk my mom into one, she has been looking at RX350's but I figured the CX-7 rocked for atleast 10,000 less

Looking at the specs for the RX350, i suspect that you will have some similar MPG as the CX 7, if you can afford the extra $ I probably would have looked at Lexus RX 400h instead...
