Brian, your opinion please. You changed your rear bearing because you saw a slight wobble in your wheel. Would you recommend that this bearing be changed regardless of whether or not there is a slight wobble in the wheel. Mind you I'll never be going as fast as you in my Protege but I do have over 240,000km on mine hence why I ask.

no harm in replacing bearings...if its making a hum or squeak when you first start moving or are driving its time to replace. better safe than sorry.

Easy to change and honestly... I would not have wanted to bearing to get so bad it would damage the shaft.

Wheel bearings should definitely be replaced!
