mp3's SUCK in snow!!!!!!!!

had the fist snow storn this night and my mp3 sucks. ssways left to right, tires to wide? flat? i dunno, but tomorrow its coming off the road........

come on...give her a chance...where you at, current conditions...what tires on the car...don't just say she sucks.

did u have your snow tires on??? i got 205 winter tires just because i dont see to much snow around here i just got them for all the potholes and salt after the snow. I hope i didnt make a mistake buying 205's.

The SP9000's are about the worse I've ever driven in the snow with. They slip left/right and all over the place. I tried going up one hill, only to slide backwards down it.

I've got 4 studs on now, and she's puuurfect. Just as good as my old civic was, just with better power and handling. I'm amazed that even with 14" winter studs on how well this car handles still, you know, considering the tires.

Get them Z-Rated tires off you fool! Just kidding, but really, take them off.

the SP9000s are a max performance "SUMMER" tire.... theyare meant to perform in DRY grounds... and they have no snow traction at all.....So if you still have them on driving in a snow storm .....

Yes, even if you go to Dunlop's tire website, you'll see that they are rated horrible for traction in the winter. These tires are definitely NOT for the winter!

Dammit, I'm gonna DIE this winter (or smash my car...either way my life is over). I can't afford to go out and buy new rims+tires! What did you guys do? Did you buy new RIMS and tires or just tires to go on your 17" rims?

I just bought some 15s with black steelies. Had them mounted, balanced and delivered to my door all for under $500.
Tire Rack

eek. $500 is a lot to spend on my brand new car...is there a cheaper way to go? I mean, HOW BAD are the stock tires in the snow? Will I wreck my car if I drive with them on?

Really try to get snow/ice tires on some steel rims before it snows too much. Get 14's to lower your cost even more. It'll be even better in the snow than 15's. Would you rather spend 400-500 on winter tires and have an excellent winter, or pay the 100-500 on your deductible to get your car fixed after you put it in the ditch? Depending on how much you use your tires you'll be able to get 2-3 Winters on them.

From hearing what everyone is saying, they'll be REAL bad in the snow. Look at it this way, to buy a new set of Dunlops (or equivelantS) it'll cost you around 100-120 per tire, plus10-20 for mounting and balancing...usual tire wear for these tires is rumored to be around 15,000mi. In the snow/ice you could cut that milage dramatically because of all the spinning you'll do...thus, you are saving yourself major miles on your good tires, and driving much more safely to boot, if you rationalize and factor everything in, you could come out of it saving yourself quite a bit of money by getting them...good luck... :D

And shop around. 500.00 american seems fairly steep. I got my rims for 42.00 each, canadian, and tires were $60.00 each, and studs were like 7$ per tire

That's Canadian.

I drove my Dunlops around for about 3 weeks in the snow while waiting for my rims to come in. The sand and rocks on the road chips them easily. And their very dangerous on snow. Good idea to get tires.

Don't let there be another MP3 death bud. We'd hate to see your car.....<cough> I mean you get hurt

;)

i got mine 205 55 r15'a for 428 @ www.discounttiredirect.com havent put them on yet i probally will this weekend. Kooldino where in newjersey do u live i work in Hillsboro NJ and i ve seen 2 mp3s up there also i saw an mp3 at the oxford valley mall in PA with jersey Tags is this You?? I would Really like to talk to another mp3 owner ive seen a few but never talk to them.

hey I have those mp5 wheels and tires for sale in the for sale section and they do give light snow traction polished alloys with new tires under 500.00 make me a deal!

guruuu!

i wish i would have seen that before i bought my black steel rims

i wish some of you guys lived near michigan b/c i work at discount tire and i get some really good deals. i just bought new tires for my dads navigator and they were only 350 for all 4 tires. would have costed around 600.
im not even driving my car in the winter this year. im driving the navigator. so i dont have to worry about road salt or any accidents.

Paulmp3222, I live near Stockton College...about 10 minutes West of Atlantic City. Nah, that wasn't me you saw in PA. Haven't been out of state w/ it yet.

Okay, here's what I think I've decided on (for now). If I can get a cheap set of rims/tires, I'll do it. But they'd have to be like $300 cheap. Wheelguruuu, I'll offer ya $300 for your tires/rims! Might not be much, but it's better than nothing.

Anyway, the thing about where I live is that it only snows a couple of times a year (knock on wood)...and I can't really justify spending $500+ to make my car ugly + poor handling for maybe 2 or so snowstorms. Anyone see what I'm sayin?

I'm hearin what you're saying, but it only takes one storm ruin your whole car... :(
You could just find another ride if it snows and let your car sit if you don't want to roll the dice...you've got to weight the risk/rewards... :D
don't forget, the rims will get all messed up from the salt, sand and gravel...

Paul, I'm with you on wishing I saw Guru's P5 wheels + tires before getting the ol steelies...oh well right...
Have you gotten, or are you going to get covers? tough debate: cheesy wheel cover look, or ghetto (though still kind of bad ass) lookin steel...hmmmmmmm
I'm probably throwing mine on sometime in the next week or two myself. Let me know what you think of them when you put them on. :)
