I have a 2008 MS3, with the indash 6 disk Bose system. The manual says that it can play MP3's...but when i try to play them, it doesnt seem to work. anyone got an idea?

Mp3 stereos weren't standard until '08.5. Previously the Mp3/CD player was an accessory available from the dealer, though one not really well advertised.

Whether or not you have a 6CD changer is dependent on the package you purchased. I believe it's still bundled with the moonroof on both the regular and the GT trims.

Bastards, I was LIED to......unbeliveable.

To be fair to the dealerships.. I believe the regular 3's with the 6 disk changer get MP3 support.. but for some reason the MS3 didnt... the dealership probably just assumed that the top of the line model had the top of the line stereo... you should inform them that they are incorrect in their assumption...

... and then make them get you the mp3 changer (approx $600 I believe).

It's probably more along the lines that the salesperson had no idea what they were talking about. They've been telling potential buyers that the stereo played Mp3's at least since I bought mine in 2005.

Again, the '08s don't natively support Mp3 playback, however it's standard on all '08.5 models.

I wonder how much I missed the 08.5's by. I just purchased my MS3 GT 2nd week in april. I wasn't even aware that there was an 08.5

Is there anything that can be done to allow mp3 capability on the Bose systems? I've read something about the stereo's flash programmability - can they update software for mp3 decoding?

It really pissed me off that the higher end sound system didn't even support mp3.. I was completely blown away, actually.
