mp3 vs base protege

hey guys well i am new here... i have a corolla right now and i am planning to sell it.. im thinking of getting a protege es.. i was wondering.. what is the difference in the engine between the es and the mp3.. is it just the ecu? or are there other parts? or is it a completely different 2.0 setup? cuz the mp3 puts out 140 while the es puts out 130... so plz help..

mp3

the mp3 has the exhaust which ads the extra 10 hp, or so they say but i heard the mp3 only dynoed in at like 120bhp

the mp3 has different ecu programming, exhaust, i believe the intake manifold may be different (or am i thinking of the fs-ze?)...other than that, im clueless.

and no the mp3 was not dyno'd at 120bhp...it was dyno'd at around 115whp i think.

ECU timing and dual Stage intake manifold are the only differences power wise. The rest is suspension parts. The ES and MP3 have the same exhuast with the exception of the muffler which of course we all know is made by racing beat.

The only power differences between the MP3 and normal Pro's is the ECU alone. Yes there is a different muffler, but it is for sound only. The only differences between the intake manifold is that there is some type of gadget on the normal pro's that help out cold starts. But lots of people have been having rattling from the engine because of it, so they are takng it off themselves. No power is derived from it though.

As for which to buy, the only reason I recomend the MP3 is because of the limited quantity of them. It might hold it's value better than a normal Pro. You can always buy a normal Pro and buy all the parts to make it look like an MP3.

You also need the MP3 ECU & Shift Knob & Pedal Covers & Strut Bar & Racing Beat Muffler...ect...ect...

the body parts themselves are a good $500+- i wanted to get them for my 99lx. im basing my estimate through mazdaformance.com, they sell the "genuine" mp3 parts.

You'll need an assload of parts to convert an ES to a MP3. You'll need:

-sport 20 front fascia (mp3 bumper)
-sideskirts
-rear skirt
-racing hart wheels
-racing beat springs
-tokico struts
-strut bar
-euro spec steering rack
-ecu
-racing beat muffler
-stereo system which adds 2 speakers and a sub, and of course the z828 head unit
-nardi wheel, shift knob and ms pedals
-mp3 seats and floormats
-paint the car blue or yellow ;)

The Stock ES/protege5 dyno's in at about 102-110 hp depending on the car i guess, the only mp3 i've seen had 115 whp.

euro spec steering rack?

Yes, our steering is somehow different. It's more responsive than a normal protege (I think). I've read about this somewhere. I thought it was also in the sales brochure.

With the untuned FS-ZE, I have about 122 HP to the wheels. When I get it tuned, I expect more than 140 WHP.

well.. i really dont care about cosmetics that much.. if i get an es i just want it to handle like the mp3... maybe get the ecu for better timing and all... now my question is.. when the turbo protege comes out.. will the lsd be available to the public? and if it does.. can i slap it on to the es?

thats pretty interesting...ive never heard that before. i was under the impression it was the suspension that caused the responsive handling. i could be wrong. now i can go around saying i have some uber-leeto steering rack for my car. :p

I'm not positive about it. I thought I read it somewhere. Don't quote me, I could be wrong. I don't feel like researching it though.

??? Jeez, you guys need proof to believe that you have a different steering rack?

Damn, every time I answer someones, questions, I get people either ignoring, or asking for 'proof'. I may not own a mp3, protege5, or a 3rd gen, but I know for sure you have a european spec steering rack.

Oh yeah, I forgot the mention the thicker swaybars in the list of parts. There is probably something else......dunno

If the transmission does not change I think you'll be able to add the LSD to your tranny!
