This is a great magazine for people who are into REAL forms of racing. It will be a good, fair test and comparison of the smaller high performance cars. With a definite slant towards autocrossing and road racing. Probably won't be a whole lot of "I couldn't work the buttons on the stereo" type stuff.

Thank you. I'll look for it. They do an excellent job with most of their articles.
How do You like the Kumho 712's? Our SP9K's have seen better days since we have about 80 autocross runs and two driver's schools on them. I would like another set but they are expensive.
I thought about getting a set of the new Kumho Ecsta 700's in 205/40-17 to run GS but they are a little small and I would have to get another set of wheels. I am not sure I am ready for that.

Grassroots Motorsports has become my favorite read of all the car magazines. I have subscribed to R&T and Car & Driver for years. I pick up a number of others (Automobile and a bunch of the better import tuning ones) on the newsstand...but I subscribed to GRM after reading my first issue! The website is very good too.

yep. I just sent my money for a GRM subscription as well. What other magazine will do such a honest comparison as "Kart Vs. Vette"? (Almost makes you want to buy a Kart!)

The 712's go on this week and I have two autocrosses this weekend. My SP9k's are totally spent and I find my self praying quite heaviliy when it rains. I am really considering the V700's now that they're available, but like you I am not looking forward to spending money on a whole other set of wheels. Especially because it's hard to find a cheap set of 17x7's. It's not like you can just go out and grab some steelies. But I am so close to beating those guys running the V700's that I think using them would be the difference between a 2nd and a first. I'm going to wait a few more autocrosses to see how the 712's work out. If they're no better than the Dunlop's I'll go for the V700's.

Good luck with the autocrosses this year. I think this will be the season that the MP3 drivers really start to show up. Neon, what? Integra, who? MP3 IS the GS killer!

cfbjr,
I have a set of the victoracer V700's for my Miata. They make a big difference roughly 1.5 to 2 seconds on a 60 second course. It depends on the course design. I am told that the 712's are slower than the Dunlop SP9K's.

Thank you and good luck to you as well.

I already posted about this...

I put up a post about this a while back when GRM first said they were doing the article...

The article is in this months issue...

It's nice to know people pay attention.

And actually, they did a full test drive of the MP3 a few issues back. One of the issues they had was with the buttons on the stereo. Let's face it, if you have the Z919, the buttons suck.

When they do a test drive on a car and they write a full article on it, they test everything.

GRM is very good magazine, and they aren't like SCC. GRM focuses on the performance value of parts, and they have a real budget. Not a "throw as much money as you can at car" like the SCC method.

There will be a couple more articles in GRM on Proteges over the course of the next year. Keep an eye on them.

I got my copy in the mail today. Did anyone notice that the car they tested has 205/45ZR17 Pirelli P Zero Asymmetricos? I thought we all have Dunlops.
