MP3 strut question

2003 mazda protege 5
so......... last night i lowered my p5 with a set of tein s-tech springs and tokico struts off of a mp3. When i had the front factory struts next to the tokico's i noticed that they are 3/4 inch taller than the stock struts. i really didn't think anything of it at the time and put everything back together. Against my better judgment (and tien's bump stop trim list recommendation of not trimming) i did not trim the bump stops. I put the car back on the ground and took it for a spin, it feels like its riding on the bump stops and full of bounce. My question is, has anyone else noticed the height difference between the struts? Is this common and correct? Or am i going to have to get a shorter strut?

Something is wrong - the new struts should be shorter and ride just fine. They may have been blown...

How many miles on these used units?

only 2,300 miles when i got them. I put the stock struts back on tonight, and measured everything when i had it apart. The top of the shock housing its self sits 3/4 of an inch taller from the spring perch, then the stock strut. It was causing the top of the strut to ride the bump stop and ride like s***, even after i cut the bump stop. it kinda sucks cuz im afraid of blowing the stock struts.

the stock MP3 struts are wrong for anything other than stock MP3 springs. sorry to say, but you are going to have to get new struts to make it right.

ya that sucks. The car rides like a dream on the stock struts and s-tech springs. im going to keep it like this till they blow! thanks for you help. btw anyone looking for stock mp3 struts and skunk2 coil overs?

all struts for a protege will work with any model. the MP3 and MSP struts are slightly different than the regular tokico struts you can buy as an aftermarket upgrade. i just installed the espelir and tokico illumina combo and it works wonderful. iw ould suggest getting a set of tokico blues, not the MSP or MP3, if you looking for new struts.
