MP3 in the MS3

Perhaps someone should make a sticky thread that says THE MS3 DOES NOT PLAY MP3s to cut down on these questions.

Sorry for the repeat.

This is really disappointing though... I know cars way older than this one that play MP3. W/e...

yeah that is kind of retarded that it doesn't. How much is the MP3 CD player option anyways?

Now I am confused. In my owner's manual, it clearly gives instructions for playing MP3s in the factory stereo. Whats with that?(hand)

Nope..w/head unit

Using the AUX input inside the center console, right?

No, I know what he is referring to. I saw this too. It does give instruction in the man. for playing mp3. Just like it gives all the instructions for GPS even if you dont have that option. It doesnt matter....sorry..you still cant play mp3.

Yeah, the manual was made for all general Mazda3's, not just your specific MS3. Therefore, you will see stuff in there that you don't even have.

I know the regular 3 doesn't, but does anyone know if the MS3 plays Mp3s?

Thanks in advance.

I'm a little afraid to say anything .......

I use an FM transmitter that takes USB thumbdrives (I have a bunch, and now we can't bring them into work anymore) filled with MP3s.

Works OK, and the thing is it plugs directly into the cigarette lighter in the armrest console, and tucks out of the way ..... you can fold it all the way down against the side.

Google "VRFM8"

MP3 player

I owned a Mazda3 S that I bought fully loaded in 2004 (leather/xenon/ moonroof/etc) and it came with 6 CD changer in dash. I paid the dealer $400 to replace that with a single CD/MP3 player.
Now the dealer wants $700 + labor to do the same thing for my Mazdaspeed3 GT. I do not think I will spend that kind of money. I have a lot of MP3 CD's though. Anybody knows how much can I buy a Mazda 3 CD/MP3 player for?

check with the forum mazda accessorie suppliers like protege garage and talk to bagman in his own sposered forum it will be cheaper... and as far as paying some one to do it thats just retarded... you just remove the long strip starting at the glove box, then just 2 screws holding the stereo in place and there is a wire harnes plugged into the back and probably a ground to the radio chasis itself... thats it... so at most 3 screws... easily done... also search ebay but they are few and far between...

i double checked my head unit and sure enough there is no mp3 icon on it.

I believe the MP3 player is an after-sale option.

If the MS3 prices are anything like the MS6 prices, purchasing the factory deck that plays MP3s is a waste of money. The MS6 one costs $500. For that price you can buy the factory Ipod adapter and a brand new Ipod...and then you can have 20GB or more of MP3s instead of what you can fit on a single (or 6) CDs.

Your options, in order of price are as follows:
* Use an FM Modulator with a portable MP3 player
* Use an aftermarket adapter (AUXMOD) with a portable MP3 player
* Use the factory Ipod adapter with an Ipod (gives you more controls)
* Use the factory MP3 player unit and light a few more hundred dollar bills on fire while you're at it.

I finally got my MP3/CD Changer installed. It works great. I had a little trouble figuring out how to change the disc to the next one (pressing Disc Up/Down is changing the MP3 folder) but I found the answer in the manual. If you press the Disc Up/Down for more than a second and a half the Changer will go to the next disc. I did not lose the trip computer, everything works like it did before. If anybody is interested, I paid $375 for the unit (shipped) from TRI-POINT ENGINEERING. The dealer was asking for $700 + labor. Very happy with my MS3 at this point. (2thumbs) (2thumbs)

Tell us more about this deal, please. Tri-Point web site doesn't admit to any such thing. This is getting into the right price range.
