MP3 in GS Auto-X

I'm a noobie so I haven't been too woried about what tires I'm using as of now. just trying to learn. I've only driven 1 auto x even so for in my area (uses SCCA rules). I had fun but definitely need to learn to drive the MP3 right. I have an MX-6 that I'd like to get running in time for the next auto x up here and maybe learn on that. Don't know where it'll fall class wise since its an 92 lx with an 88 gt swap and a 3" turbo back exhaust. still haven't looked over the car well enough to see what it'll need. 400 dollar beater that needs a little work to get running. figure it'll be something to race and have some fun with though.

sounds like Street Mod b/c of the swap.

Dolphin -- I won DS in the Type-R on Saturday and PAX'ed 6th overall. I won GS in the MP3 on Sunday by about 2 seconds and I think I paxed 12th. I ran on the 205-40-17 MXs and I have concluded that I definitely need more tire, so 225-45-17 it is.

I flailed the first run in the MP3 and almost lost it twice because I have the car set up really loose. I got it all figured out and the car is sooooo much more fun to auto-x than the WRX ever was! Not having an LSD sucks, but throttle modulation is my friend. :D

Once I get the R-compounds on and tweak the alignment later I think the MP3 will be something to recon with this season. Right now the car just slowly tracks the rear around in sweepers, I need it a little looser so I can put more throttle into it and hopefully have better hairpin rotation.

I only had to shave off 1.5 seconds in the MP3 in order to have PAX'ed in the top three on Sunday out of ~200 drivers, so I'm pretty excited since I think that is very do-able with the R tires and a little more seat time.

damn wayne sounds like youve been tearin it u! and sounds like ive been missin some action at the track. where exactly did you go for this event, and whats the schedule like for this year i know there are some in gwinnett but not for a while

i just got some crap auto x 929 wheels and i now have 2 sponsors (MAC tools, and MY school Southern Polytechnic State Universityand i cant wait to get out and dodge some cones!

i really wanna get some rides with you in the MP3 and see how it is you compensate for the understeer and really how you drive it so fast. and maybe some pointers on how i should set mine up, since were in different classes

apexlater,
An excellent result. I wish you the best of luck this year and hope you clean their clocks. Our next event is 6 Feb perhaps I can drive better this month.

The other nice thing I like about the MP3 is that it is very easy to drive. The only real vice is the lack of a LSD that makes getting on the gas trickier exiting turns. My daughter loves hers and my MSP is much the same. The MSP does have the LSD which allows earlier application of the power.

Take care and enjoy.

Congrats on your sponsors. I hope they are hookin' you up! :D

I'd be happy to have you ride with me. I am by no means a Nationally competetive driver, but I understand the mechanics of Auto-X so maybe I can help. I haven't been able to get someone to ride with me that can give me pointers, I've always had to get rides with them and try and learn what they do to go fast and apply that to my driving. I'd like a ride along with you too.

Dolphin -- The MP3 just flicks right into corners and is so very flat on transitions it is impressive. Yeah, not having the LSD has just reminded me how spoiled I got with the WRX and the Type-R. But that's ok, I kinda like having to think a little more about the throttle application instead of just standing on it. Besides, no ABS also makes you threshold brake so that you don't flat spot the tires.

I can't wait.

ya man that would be great 4 you to ride along with me and tell me what im doing wrong..haha im sure you would have many things to tell me that need improving. and the sponsors dont pay much the school just pays for the events and MAC lets me use any tool i need for free, and i even get some freebies.. other than that i pay for everything else.

So that's a sweet deal. All you have to pay for is gas and stuff you normally would anyways. That's better than most people can say.

Don't think of it as Auto-xing "wrong", maybe just not the "fastest" way around the course. :D
