Guys,

Bought an 06 GT and surprisingly, my 06 Hyndai Accent has MP3 player but not the Mz5.... Would you know if the 2008/2009 model is now compatible with MP3? I kinda looked at the brochure the other day, and they where saying that it comes standard if you purchase the Navigator system...

But without the nav, simply with the 6 CD charger, is it standard or optionnal?

Thanks!

Do you mean the Nav system or 6 CD Changer?

The 08/09 Nav system reads MP3 files and their meta tag data. It is actually quite nice. I will try to take pix and post it.

As for the standard 6-Disc in Dash, I am not sure.

thanks Jacob for the info! And yes, if you can take a picture, I would appreciate it.

as for the regular 6-Disc in dash, if ever you come to an answer, let me know!

Jasma.

Hi There... I'm not entirely clear on the question you're asking, but I can give you this info. We have a 2009 sport with the "Pereferred Equipment Package". This includes the 6-disc changer. It does have an input for an MP3 player. However, the CD player does not read CD's with MP3 files on them. I can't speak about the Nav system since I haven't seen one yet. Hope this helps!

i know on our 06 the single disc was mp3 capable but not the 6 disc. I use an ipod anyway so it doesn't matter to me.

Icefisher:

You are answering my question. Thanks! I'm not the kind of guy that uses Ipods and stuff like that... I prefer a simple MP3 CD and that's it.

Although.... It's quite amusing that the new 2009 MZ-5 doesn't even have the MP3 player (CD)??? Wow... I would guess that you could find an MP3 compatible on an old Chevy Sprint for god sakes!!! My wife's car is an Hyundai Accent 06 and she does have the MP3 in it...

I'm pretty sure that the NAV system is MP3, but then again... No need for the NAV...

As for you, "Sunglassguyjack", the 2006 MZ-5's single disc is not MP3.... If so, tell me how you can play MP3 with it? Everytime I tried, it stayed on "1" and the time never moved for its 0:00 ....

IceFisher,

I just purchased a 2009 RX-8 Grand Touring and the 6-CD changer does not play MP3 CD's, yet the specification page on Mazda's website shows it does. I called Mazda corporate and they agreed that it should work. They have referred me to my dealer for a possible radio head unit repacement and now I'm just waiting. Seems there is some confusion about the ability to play MP3 CD's, even on Mazda'a part.

Please keep us posted if the dealer give you a replacement and it works. My 09 Mazda 5 Changer has the same problem which can't play MP3.

Can someone confirm if the 6-CD changer is MP3 compatible? I have tried numerous MP3 CD without success (The CDs work well in Honda and Toyota's CD/mp3 player). According to Mazda website and customer service, both indicated it should work.

2007 M5 supports MP3, but perhaps not 2008/2009

While I bought this 2008 Mazda5 GT (no nav) about 6 months ago, I finally decided to research why my MP3 CD weren't playing this morning.

A few data points I've come across:
* None of my MP3 CD's play in the Mazda, regardless of CD-R, CD-RW, how many folders/sub-folders, file names, etc. Once loaded, it plays some imaginary track 01, which is nothing but silence for as long as I let it run.
* The online spec sheet for 2009 Mazda5 (same for 2008?) clearly indicates "In Dash 6-Disc CD/MP3 Changer" is standard on the GT trim: http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/downloadBrochure.action?url=/pdf/specs_features/veh_specs_MZ5.pdf
* My owner's manual makes almost no reference to MP3, other than to identify the single disc and six disc changers as "non-MP3 compatible".
* The 2007 Mazda5 owners manual (widely available on the web) dedicates several pages to MP3 operation.

From the looks of it, the 2008/2009 Mazda5 non-navigation audio system doesn't support MP3 playback from the CD media. At the same time, their marketing documentation and spec sheets could be considered, at a minimum, highly misleading in this matter.

This is a bummer, because this was a feature I was looking for in my purchasing decision (although I have to admit that the Aux jack has mostly replaced the value I received from the MP3 CD feature of my previous vehicle).

from what I've looked at online and in my 07 mazda5 manual, the single cd and the 6 cd changers are not mp3 compatible. but the nav. system is mp3 compatible. I too have many mp3 discs that I played in my hyundai accent (aftermarket stereo) and I used my creative zen as well. I've resorted to using a wireless fm modulator for that in my 5. with out having to replace the whole stereo thats the only affordable option i've come up with.

For around US$150 you can get a nice aftermarket head unit that will play .mp3s.

Take a look at the JVC KD-S100. US$130, kit and harness included, and free shipping to the US (I don't know Crutchfield's charges for shipping to Canada).

This is the radio I have, I can play .mp3s off of a CD-R, a flash drive (there is a front-mounted USB port), or a SD card (behind the faceplate). Or I can listen to my iPod on it if I were to buy a $25 iPod adapter.

There are some pics of the unit in this thread:
