mp3 clutch

Blue MP3
I am new at all of this and had a question. I have read somewhere that the stock clutch in the mp3 is stiffer than normal clutches and that it is "beefed up" so it can handle more power, is this true or is my clutch just going out? And if it is true is there a way to make it softer?

The MP3 clutch is the same as the standard Protege. It is a horrible unit that Mazda (at one time) issued a TSB on because it tends to grab badly when cold. I've got 77k on my original one (bought new) and I bitched at my dealer from 6k on. It acts like an on/off switch.

The replacement will be a stronger unit, but I'm not going too strong as I want the transmission to stay among the living for a bit longer (I found that you need to be smooth with the 5 speed in the Protege, a lot of owners ripped up the forks).

Well when I purchased my mp3 from the dealer used I had felt that the tranny was acting up and convinced them to put a warranty on the tranny since it was practically the only thing not under warranty and sure enough it was ripped to hell, so they replaced it with one that only had 500 miles on it once they finally found one. But I am thinking that my clutch may almost be a gonner too.
