Hey...I have an MP3 with remote keyless entry, but no actual car alarm...what's a decent...not too expensive alarm I can get installed? I really don't wanna spend more than $300. Also, should I trust a place like Best Buy to install my alarm?

I got my dealer to put in an "keyles entry upgrade alarm..." is what he called it. Cost me $240 installed, and works the same as any other alarm. Hood, trunk, and all doors are armed and it works with the keyless remote that we got with the car. I like it so far, and its nice to know that if there is ever a problem with it, the dealer put it in so they have no exuse.

There was one instance that made me feel comfortable though: I tried to see what would happen if i tried to just open the door regularly, and nothing happend; but, later I forgot that I hadn't unlocked it and grabbed the hadle a little harder and it snapped down when I let go, the warning beeps started. (rapid 3 beep pattern) So, Im not sure if it has a perimeter alarm, but it is sensitive to shock. I figure that since the lifting the handle didn't set anything off once, but once there was a noticeable shock, a warning went off. Which is also nice because the alarm won't be going off everytime some loud ass harley rolls down the street... 
I'll post any other discoveries I have with it as I find them out. If you have any "test" that you want to see how certain things affect it, let me know...except breaking a window.

Hey I got the factory alarm and it does have a perimeter on it or either a shock sensor. Whenever i park at work (valet parking) or at school (parking garage) i hear my alarm go off, probably due to the vibration of civics with loud mufflers and etc. Its always beeping. It seems to work just fine, I want to get the clifford alarm that rolls up the windows. If your windows are down and your alarm is activated once someone puts there hand through the door to reach in the car the windows go up and sunroof close (if you have one) the MP3s should of came with sunroof,

The dealer installed a moonroof on my P5 before I took delivery. It's made by "AutoShade", I think.
Works/looks real nice, and the control button is next to the little change holder to the left of the steering column. Works like factory, opens into the roof and also tilts up. Overall, a nice item, but I've got to change the light bulb in the control button (It's green, and as you know, nearly everything else is amber). It was the same price as the factory roof - about $800. Don't skimp on it if you get it - a leaky, cheap roof will ruin your beutiful ride.
I think it might be a little noisier than the factory unit - the weatherstripping setup is a little different, and the wind noise can be annoying, even with the roof closed. Gonna get the deflector and see if that helps.
But it closes automatically when I shut off the car, which is a real nice feature - don't know if the factory roof does that.
I've got the Pursuit alarm also, with remote start. The remote start is the greatest thing since sliced bread - totally worth the extra $125. Thought I'd never use it, but I use it every damn day, and not just to impress the neighbors.
They won't install remote start on any stickshift car. Too much danger of starting the car in gear, plus the safety of having to press the clutch to start would have to be disabled.

My alarm guy installed my compustar system with auto starter. The deal is, to enable the auto starter, when stopping the car, you must:
1) put in neutral
2) pull handbrake
3) remove keys (car keeps running)
4) get out of car (still running)
5) close doors (engine stops and arms)
Now you ask, why on earth do this? well simple: If you are in neutral and with the handbrake pulled, and you can get out of the car without the engine dying on you, then it means the car is in neutral and is safe to auto start.
If you disarm, open a door, then close it, the auto start won't work as someone might have put the car in gear.
I don't see any way the car could start in gear unless I did something on purpose, for example, crawl in through window, put in gear and use remote starter.

I think it is because in the cold, the "unlock" pulse must be longer than usual, and, my shock sensor is not calibrated properly. I will go see my mechanic when I get my winter rims installed.

I have installed a car alarm on my Mp3 (installed it my self) and it also has auto start and a proximity sensor. The alarm work great and wasnt that expenses. The only thing that was hard were the door locks but everything else was very easy. So dont be afraid buy that more expense alarm that does it all for you and install it youre self that way you understand your car and you have the confidences that it was done right.
