mouse smell in my RX7

So I have an 83 rex GS. It was "stored" in a field for about 3 years, and the interior is in almost perfect condition. Only problem, MICE. I dont have them in the car, but I know that they were in it at one time. I know that mouse is one of the harder smells to get out and febreze only works so good. I am wanting something that will actually clean it without fading/bleaching out my 21 year old red carpet. Any ideas/suggestions? I would rather not replace the carpet because it is a real pain in the ass to get the front piece (total of 4 pieces of carpet in rx7) out without ripping or cutting it. After cleaning I will most likely spray an entire bottle of febreze in there just because of hot days. Thanks in advance,

Ian

Take them to a detailing shop and have them shampooed.
we use this strawberry stuff at work and no matter what the car reaked of before they shampoo the carpets you cant smell it when they are through.

What would be a good price for shampooing/detailing? I have heard that roughly 100-130 bucks is good. What does anyone every else think?

Thats not too bad of a price. If they are thorough they will take your seats out so considering the work they put into it thats not too bad. I dont know what we charge around here. Im sure theres some way to do it yourself...If you rent one of those carpet steam cleaners that might work, but I dont really want to point you in that direction because i dont know if the chemicals would ruin the carpet color... I know it works on home carpeting but auto carpet is different and might react differently to the cleaning agent.

^^^ Lol. Thats what I thought. I thought this was going to be one of those I have a mouse in my a/c system. We get that all the time at work. its funny.

How do u know its a dead mouse? Maybe its a pair of dirty underwear, all crusty and stuck to the metal floor under the carpets!!! LMAO

When my friend bought his 90 civic hatch there was this awful smell every time you turn on the A/C. We knew that mice have lived in there (or currently are) cause you could see their droppings every. Well the next day we went out and removed the vents and sure enough there was a nest made from straw and some material from the front seats, and inside the nest there were three dead baby mice. They must have been dead for a while because they were all hollow inside. I guess that's what you get for buying a $400 car. (moon)

About your car, just buy one of those carpet steam cleaner for your house. My dad uses it on his 94 pro and the carpet look the same as before only cleaner. They're about 200 bucks though but, just think of it this way you could clean your car and your house. Its like killing two birds with one stone. (2thumbs)

I didn't know mice had a smell.

You should clean and shampoo it then if it still stinks then take it to be shampooed professionally.
