Motor Ticking at Idle

Whats up everyone, Lately i have noticed that when i am in neutral at a light, or stopped for a short period of time i hear a ticking sound from my engin. Now at 1st i thought it may be a belt or a loose part but i checked and everything looks fine. I also noticed that when i hit the accelorater the sound stopes and then starts again. Also the ticking stopes after a few seconds. Any idea's? Anyone experience this problem before??

Sometimes engines get louder if the oil gets low. I had a car that ticked until I added a quart.

I also have that ticking noise in my 2003.5 P5. Only comes around when the engine is idle. I initially thought it was a key from my keychain rattling on something. But it sounds like the noise is in the engine area. Maybe something loose?

Mods: cartboy shortshift & bushings, injen cold air intake

check the purge valve solenoid. the little black box with the vacuum lines that you relocated when you install an intake.

Ohhhhh!!!!!! I have this ticking too! It makes my car sound like a huge piece of s***! But it's been around forever...

Mine does it too, but I only hear it when I have my intake installed. If I put the stock intake back, I can't hear it anymore.

I think the ticking you all are referring to is what 'uclap5' mentioned. If you have an intake the purge solenoid is usually relocated to a bolt near the strut tower bar. If it's
too close it will rattle against the bar at idle or when shifting from park. Could be something else though...

just stick yer head into the engine bay and try and listen to where the noise it coming from. id put money that its the purge valve solenoid.

unfortunatly, i dont know a fix. it helps to relocate it to a more hanging position so the ticks arent as noticable.

i wiretied it to the master cylinder.
but i did a bad job on relocating the coolant resovoir, and that bloody thing makes a noise when i'm at dead idle. too lazy to fix, so easily ignored..LOL

We'll im not 100% posative but i think i remember this noise before i installed my cold air. I appriciate all the input from everyone and im gonna try and get that checked out. Also if I may add the coolant resovoir is without a doubt the biggest b**** to relocate, but if u use that metal bracket that blocks the intake hole and spin it left it makes as a good base for the res. Just a tip i used, yeah its ghetto but its pretty sturdy and dont look all that bad.

i hear a ticking/ringing coming from my belt area...it's intermittent but i notice it mostly when driving home from work 15 miles and it's warm/hot outside. it's happened at night too. not sure what it could be...

my tick is just my injectors, they are loud, its the injectors switching open and closed as they squirt fuel in the motor, its normal.

the ticking aound is like a bomb....you are waiting for something bad to happen.

j/k.

my engine has had this ticking sound at idle for such a long time.....believe it is nothing to worry about as mentioned above.
