2003.5 mazdaspeed protege
03.5 msp.
Bent 1 rod, cracked 1 cyl.
I dont know how or why i just picked up the car as a winter project in the garage. saved it from a shredder kind of thing.
Today i picked up a 02 protege es 5 spd for the motor. The guy was local, he even drove it to my house for me. $300.00. The body is rusted to death but man it runs pretty. I will use alot of parts off it trim etc.
Now my question is, other than the obvious turbo mani, turbo, lines etc, anything else that needs to be transferred before throwing it in my ol msp? That plate between the oil pan and the block for the turbo drain i think too.

I am new here and just wanna say hey to you all, i will be asking alot of Q's in the next few weeks and appreciate all the info on this forum.

I am old school and not to tech savvy but i am going to try and upload pics at my work tomorrow.

mbsp is required to use the stock oil return so swap it. you will need to swap transmissions anyway assuming your lsd is still good. if not, whichever feels better. the lsd can stop lsding but still work as a proper dif.

nothing from the es chassis needs to be swapped. just unhook and wrap the wires aside and just yank the motor and swap the above. I did the same things between two p5s. its often cheaper to buy a whole car than a decent engine that hasnt been sitting around for a while. my 215km p5 has a 325km engine in it that has better compression than my msp with 135km lol. that p5s been boosted for 5000km now, still awesome.

the swap is very straight forward. just unhook all the obvious but id recommend removing the manifolds ect to access rear motor mount and make disconnecting the alternator/starter branch easier. keep the big brake booster vac line from your msp, cause it has a one way valve on it.

prime opportunity to do timing belt/waterpump/vcgasket/IMgasket/EXgasket ect.. also rear engine seal is ideal to replace cause you will have the mbsp and trans out.
new trans outdrive seals.
these parts very cheap and very easy to do with engine out.

to the right of the pic you will see the share boxes. copy and past the IMG line into this forum to post images from photobucket. hope you plan to paint those panels yellow though!

Yeah the black fenders are the way i bought it. I am a red seal autobody repairer by trade, now working as a damage estimator for our insurance industry here.
needed a toy for winter in the garage, and the price was right $900.00.

You are off to a great start. I did the same thing last year, bought an $800 MSP and swapped a motor in it, made a great daily.

Thanks!

I really have no idea how this rod bent. I drove the car home approx 15 miles, with no issues, no smoke, only thing was the boost cut at 3500rpms. but no knocks, ticks anything. we have the day off tomorrow, so i will get a case of beer and hammer down. I will take photos and let you all know how she go.

im getting better the second time around. had this motor/trans pulled out in 2 1/2 hours. didnt even slam a beer either. the third pic you see is an extra turbo assy i picked up locally. tonight i will transfer over all parts required and drop this bad boy in, and make sure everything will be hunky dory.
