Motor mount inserts as proactive maintainance?

From what I read, putting inserts in can extend the life of the stock MM's, with little punishment in harshness. I'm pretty sure my mounts are OK at 67k, but wouldn't mind putting $100 in now if it'll keep the stock mounts in shape, and give me some performance to boot.

Is it a dumb idea? In general, I'd like to avoid most vibrations.

So which would provide the best combination of longevity with least vibrations:

1) Medieval front mount, AWR side inserts = $90

2) RR front insert, AWR side inserts = $78

Is it correct that it'll preserve the stock mounts longer, while keeping vibes to a minimum?

I mean if your launching your car now, then your mounts are more than likely toast. If not, then adding the inserts will definitly prevent the stock mounts from tearing. I have both front and rear inserts, vibes are very very minimal.

Perfect, thanks. I don't launch hard, kinda pointless in these cars, but I drive hard, so I'm a bit worried about them.

It sounds like the rear is a serious hassle, and it seems like doing the front 3 would relieve most stress off the rear, ie not induce lots more wear, so I probably wouldn't do the rear. Unless you convince me otherwise. :D

well i noticed the greatest improvement when i did the rear, althought it can be time consuming the rear is one not to skip. Just make sure you have a free weekend when doing the rear, or pay someone to do it if you wish.

The vibrations from the inserts suck. People say they are minimal, but they irritate the crap out of me. At idle is the only time, though. If anything in your car already rattles, be prepared. The other problem is, once you have driven with them, you can't stand the driveline lash without them. I've taken mine in and out twice and can't decide which is worse.

I have #2 and I am very happy. As for vibration, I don't have bad vibes at all. They're worse in the winter and when I am running the the A/C, but not that bad. The inserts do have a breakin period when they tend to transmit more vibes, and when I did just the RR front, my car vibrated like a mofo all the time...the dash made a noise, it was awful. Added the AWR sides and it calmed it down a ton. I would highly recommend RR fronts and AWR sides...I haven't done the rear, and don't know if I will considering a lot of vibration supposedly comes from that mount. Good luck.

great, thanks!

Everybody kept talking about the break in period when I bought mine. How long is it? 20,000 miles? Mine are just as bad as ever. I think some get used to it and you think it isn't as bad or it is "broken in", when it really is the same.

Not to be a jerk, but if everyone else is talking about a break in period, after which the mounts settled down but that's not your experience, maybe it has more to do with your specific vehicle than the setup as a whole. I have found what "everybody kept talking about" to be very true...after a few months, the vibes settled down a bit. I had to make sure a few things (fog lights, hood stops, etc) were tightened down to eliminate a few rattles, but the vibes definitely improved after a few months.

70k miles....i bet your mounts are already cracking.....mine started tearing at around 80k....and when i replaced them all, all but one was ripped all the way through

i'ld just replace them all....get new mounts, it would be a b**** to buy inserts just to get into the mounts and find them torn and just put a bandaid on them

I really don't want the vibrations, but I hate the idea of buying OEM replacements. i wouldn't mind losing some driveline lash. Inserts seem like the best idea for my preferences, dunno.
