Moth BaLLs?????

okay, here in hawaii we're not lucky enough to have any gas higher than 92 octane. i heard that you can put 87 and add like 30 MOTH BALLS in it and it would equal to about 101octane or something. you think this is a good idea??? im just trying to find something better than 92 to run with my turbo.

One old story was that if you put moth balls in a cars gas tank it would keep the engine from pinging. The story had a basis in fact. Moth balls contained a chemical that has a powerful anti-knock effect. I have seen moth-balled gasoline tested in the laboratory for its octane rating. The moth balls would dissolve in the gas tank and become an anti-knock additive. The trick was to put enough moth balls into the tank to increase the octane enough to prevent pinging. Modern moth balls do not contain that chemical and will not stop engine pinging

Hmmm dont know about that, think we'll start a fund here to send you gas before that happens.

:D

Ummmm, no. Dont put mothballs in your gas tank.
92 will run fine in the turbo, but if you really feel compelled to run higher octane, just use octane booster from any auto parts store. You can also buy it bulk shipped online, or some auto parts stores will let you buy big. The biggest I have seen is at Auto Zone, 1 gallon. It gets pretty pricey, they really jack the price up for toluene.

I have a gallon of Toluene in the garage. I know that stuff works, but is said to be harsh on your fuel lines (if they are rubber based). This stuff will kill your paintjob though!
